| After SAT testing, your child will be given an opportunity to complete
homework in class. However, please continue to read with your child. I
cannot stress enough the importance of reading to them and with them every
night! The more they practice, the better they will become.
Please read with your child every day! The Saxon decodable readers (black
and white) are great for fluency practice. We have a weekly basal story-
this should be read every night. Please remember to record any books your
child has read at home on his or her bookworm list in their folders. Don't
forget to circle the number if it is an A.R. book!
Another very important part of homework is studying for upcoming tests or
quizzes. We have sight word quizzes and basal comprehension tests every
Thursday (unless otherwise noted on the newsletter). We have spelling and
dictation tests on Fridays- please encourage your child to study their
spelling words and practice the dictation sentences. We are still working on
timed addition tests. If your child makes a 90 or above, they are not
required to take the tests any longer. However, I will suggest to continue
practicing. Also, we will begin timed subtraction tests in April. There will
also be a Saxon Phonics and Saxon Math test given each week.
Thank you for all you do for your child!
