About Mrs. MattsonI grew up in Kansas City Missouri where I lived for 26 years before moving to Alabama. I attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City, where I received my Bachler's of Arts in Elementary Education and my Master's of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. I taught for three years for the Kansas City Missouri School District. There I taught sixth grade and first grade. I met my husband in Kansas City, married, and moved to Birmingham in the summer of 1999. My husband's family lives here, so here we are! I taught for the Homewood Alabama School District for two years, both fourth grade and Kindergarten. Then, I started teaching for the Jefferson County School District, and have taught Kindergarten for the last 5 years. My husband and I were a family of 4 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 hamsters, until a wonderful day in October 2006, when we had our son. He has changed our lives in a beautiful way that we never have experienced before. He is our pride and joy. I now understand the unconditional love a parent has for their child. We are also foster parents, and currently are raising a foster son. He has been with us for just over a year now. He is 42 days older than our birth son. My hope for my students is to instill in them the love for learning that I had as a child. I enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces as they come into my classroom everyday, ready to learn and grow. |
