Parent Information Guide 2011-2012

Kindergarten Information

Car tags/Drop off/Pickup: Kindergarten drop off in the mornings is in the
front under the awning. There will be someone there to help your child out
of the car and to his/her room. Please try to allow your child to walk in by
him/her self after the first day. This will help with traffic congestion
while making them feel independent. They may be dropped off beginning at
7:30. The children will be supervised by teachers in the library until 7:45.
They will then be dismissed to go to their rooms. For pickup, in the
afternoon, please use the car tag provided. It is very important that you
use this every day of the school year for your child’s protection and so we
will see you coming and have your child ready. Please have the cartage in
the front window on the passenger side of the vehicle. We load in the front
of the school underneath the awning. We are not allowed to walk across
traffic to load on the driver’s side of the car so all children will be
loaded on the passenger side. We leave our rooms at 2:30 and begin loading
at 2:35. Please be in line to get your child before then or you will get
caught in first grade traffic. Kindergarten loads first and then first
grade. First grade loading begins at 2:45, so you need to be here long
before. Traffic flow at the beginning of the school year is very slow.
Please be patient! Our concern is your child’s safety. The traffic flow
will improve after a few days. Any child not picked up by 2:50 will be kept
in the hallway in front of the library. After 3:15, they will be in the
office and you will need to sign them out. Please try to always pick your
child up on time. He/she may get worried and upset if they have to wait.
**If at any time during the school day you are going to be picking your child
up early, you must go through the office and sign them out. The office will
call your child’s room and he/she will meet you in the office.
Tardy/Attendance: The first bell rings at 8:00. At 8:00, Mrs. Culpepper does
the pledge and announcements over the telecast system. If any child comes in
after that, he/she will be considered tardy. Three tardies equals an
absence. It is very important that your child has regular attendance so they
will not fall behind in their schoolwork. If your child is absent, please
send a written excuse with them within two days of there absence. We do have
a method for reporting an absence on our website: www.ccps.cullmancats.net.
Lunch: Student lunches are $1.80. Extra milk is $.50. Free lunch forms are
inside your child’s folder, if needed. You may pay ahead or pay weekly.
Lunches may not be charged. All students must have money in their lunch
account. Visitor lunches are $3.50. If you plan to come eat, please send a
note that morning with your child so the lunchroom can get an accurate count
of how many lunches to prepare. Please allow a three-week grace period at
the beginning of school to enable us to get adjusted before eating lunch with
your child. If you come to eat with your child too early, he/she may get
upset and want to leave with you.
FAST FOOD IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE LUNCHROOM.
Snacks: Each child needs to bring a nutritious snack (pretzels, dry cereal,
fruit, crackers, etc.) to school every day. Since we are not allowed to
bring fruit juices to school, please send a water bottle. Pop closed lid
water bottles are great. Please send your child’s snack in a bag or in their
backpack. Please do not send your child’s snack in a lunch box. Teachers
need to be able to determine what is snack and what is lunch. Please send
your child’s snack every day. If you have extra snacks that you can send to
keep in the cabinet for those who forget please do so. Any extras a greatly
appreciated.
Medications: Teachers cannot give medications of any kind in the classrooms.
It must be stored and dispensed through the nurse’s office. You must fill
out a medication form before any medicine can be given. A form for this is
inside your child’s folder.
Money: Money sent to school for any reason needs to be in an envelope with
your child’s name, the amount, what it is for, and teacher’s name. This
helps us tremendously. Please do not consolidate money. For example, do not
put picture money in with lunch money.
Discipline: A discipline plan will be sent home separately. Please discuss
the rules and consequences with your child. We will discuss them at school
also.
Activities: We have physical education every day. Tennis shoes are required
for safety reasons for PE classes. Girls need to wear shorts underneath
dresses. We also have Library and Music once a week and Art every other week.
Rest Time: Your child will need a rest mat every day. The mats will be sent
home every Friday to be washed. Please put your child’s name with permanent
marker on his/her mat.
PTA: We hope to have 100% of parents in our PTA this year. Please join and
stay involved with your child’s education and activities here at the Primary
School.
Student Folder: Folders will be sent home every Monday including a class
newsletter, notes, and monthly calendars from the school office. Notes from
home, money, homework, etc. can be sent back in the folder on the following
day. Please be sure to send the folder back the next day so that I will have
them for next Monday’s news.
Supplies: Please put your child’s name on his or her supplies before sending
them to school.
Wish List: In order to help defray the cost of much-needed supplies, we are
asking parents to help us with our wish list. Your child’s teacher has a
list of needed items on the closet door in the classroom. Feel free to take
as many post-it notes as you would like! You can send these items to school
at any time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Please let me know if there are any questions or if something isn’t clear. I
am looking forward to a great year!!!

Thank You,
Malinda Yarbrough
