Renaissance is not a program. It’s a process that encourages academic
excellence, improvement, and citizenship. Founded by educators in 1988,
Jostens Renaissance is the first and only national education-focused program
created to recognize and reward the academic achievements of students from
elementary school through college. Its primary goals are to increase student
performance and teacher enthusiasm, and raise the level of community
participation in schools.
Haleyville Elementary has worked very closely with Haleyville High
School and Haleyville Middle School to develop this process. By working
together, we were able to establish continuity and consider the needs at
both schools. The Renaissance Program will focus on four main target
areas: Improving student attendance, Improving overall academic
performance, Increasing graduation rates, and Creating a positive, safe
culture.
Renaissance also encourages the involvement of parents and local
businesses. In fact, many of the awards given to students to recognize their
academic achievements come from local businesses. We encourage everyone to
patronize our local businesses in recognition of their contributions to the
children of Haleyville.
Frequently Asked Questions About Renaissance:
Do all students benefit? All students are eligible for many different levels
of awards. It is our goal to recognize as many students as possible for
improvement in academics, attendance, and behavior.
How can Renaissance help students? Students are offered incentives to
improve their grades, attendance, and in some cases overall attitude. By
offering incentives that students will appreciate, most students will accept
the challenge to work harder for improvement.
Can students move up in Renaissance? Yes, student progress is re-evaluated
at the end of each nine weeks. At that time, students are assigned to
qualifying status levels.
What can parents and community do to help? Business involvement is critical
to the success of our incentive program. Contributions to Renaissance are
tax deductible and greatly appreciated and are always used to reward students
and staffulty for marked improvement.
Does Renaissance really make a difference? All across the globe statistics
show that most students will work for tangible rewards. Over the last few
years, we have seen continuous improvement in academic success and
attendance. We look forward to tracking data on our students and seeing
continued improvement in our student body.
