READING Lesson 20(February9 - February 16)
We will begin Lesson 20  "Ways People Live" Thursday, February 9, 2012.
-Spelling test is Wednesday, February 15th.
-Reading test/homework due on Thursday, February 16th.
-In order to make homework more feasible, we have changed it a little.  No printing is required. Please check the website for the updated homework information.  Your child is to send in the completed work every test day.  If you have already printed the other homework pack feel free to continue to use it.

*For the old homework format, go to this website http://www.pcboe.net/les/elderweb/First%20Grade.htm and click the tab "homework". Then scroll down to the current week and print the homework. You may choose to do this homework, or the other that does not require printing.

*Our students are becoming fluent readers! In order to help them continue their fluency, we have added a link on the left hand corner labeled "Oral Reading Fluency". Check it out! :)

Dear Parents,

Our class is planning to sponsor a $100.00 hole for the Lakewood On the Green Golf Tournament on March 3rd.This project will allow a sign to be placed at one of the 18 golf holes with our class name displayed. Of course, participation is voluntary and will not affect your child academically or in any other way. It is simply a way that we can show class spirit, while supporting our school's efforts in raising funds for our school.

Here's how it works:

-If every student brings in $3.00 we will reach our class goal!We need your help, but there isone stipulation...you cannot giveyour child the $3.00 needed for this project!

-That's right, we have discussed this project and students know they cannot ask for this contribution. We want them to earn the donation,if they choose to participate. They could perform age appropriate odd jobs for immediate family members, grandparents, extended family members like aunts and uncles. This project will teach them responsibility and ownership while encouraging school pride.

- In the past, many students wanted to donate and earn more than our $3.00 goal which is perfectly acceptable. Some students have chosen to donate $3.00 from their allowance which is fine, as long as it is achoice. If our class reaches an amount over $100.00, the extra funds would simply be donated as part of our fundraising efforts toward the golf tournament, although this has seldom been the case. Our class’ donation deadline is

Friday, February 17 in order to have time for our sign to be printed.

-Again, this is a voluntary project that we hope you will support. Lakewood Elementary parents always go above and beyond for their children and we appreciate you all!

**Thank you for always supporting us!
