 Welcome to the First Grade Reading Resource Page

-DIBELS testing begins Friday, August 12, 2011. Please be sure that your child goes to bed a little early or at least on time, eats a balanced non-sugary breakfast, and is on time for school.

-First grade reading intervention groups will begin Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

 There are 5 Big Ideas in Reading
Phonemic Awareness: The ability to hear and manipulate sounds in spoken words
Phonics: The ability to associate sounds with letters and use these sounds to form words
Fluency with Text: The effortless, automatic ability to read words in connected text
Vocabulary: The ability to understand (receptive) and use (expressive) words to acquire and convey meaning

 Comprehension: The complex cognitive process involving the intentional interaction between reader and text to convey meaning
