This is the new spelling and reading study guide information for lesson 1. Please be sure that your child reads, studies spelling and robust vocabulary words every night. Study Tipsfor "Arthur's Reading Race".The Robust Vocabulary Words are tested in context. Please pay special attention to them during the week. Focus on the definitions the first couple of nights...then focus on real life applications of the words in context the rest of the week. We want them tothink.

**AGenre'question is always asked on each weekly test. Be sure to look at the type of Genre' each week. (Always located in the blue boxon the 1st page of the reading story.)

08/21 Tues. night Write the spelling words 3 X each. (Genre' Fiction)
Read "Arthur's Reading Race"
Study Robust Vocabulary words (real life focus)
Day 2
08/11 Wed. night Choose 8 spelling words write 4 asking & 4 telling sentence
*Never begin a sentence with: And, So, But, or I

Day 3
08/12 Thurs. night Put the spelling words in a,b,c order
Read "Arthur's Reading Race"

*Begin the Beginning of the Year unit test in class

SatOR Sun. Write the spelling words 3 X each

Day 1 of Lesson - Read your story to someone, and write your spelling words 3 times each.
Day 2 of Lesson - Read your story to someone, and write 8 sentences (4 statements & 4 questions)...using at least 1 spelling word in each sentence.
Day 3 of Lesson - Write your spelling words in ABC order.
Day 4 of Lesson - Read your story, and write your spelling words 3 times each.
Day 5 of Lesson - Spelling Test and spelling fill-in-the-blank test will be given.
Day 6 of Lesson - Story/Vocabulary test and phonics test will be given.
New words for up-coming story will be sent home on this day.
Most days a Saxon Math Sheet will be sent home along with spelling homework.
Occasionally a Social Studies and/or Science study guide will be sent home prior to a test, in order for you to help your child study.
Check your child's homework planner each day for
a detailed list of daily homework.
