We will be reading Charlotte's Web as a class for the remainder of the school year. There will be a comprehension test at the end of each week. Students are to read the assigned chapters indicated on their homework checklists each night, and we will review the chapters the following day.
Please take advantage of this class website. I use the website as a means of communicating with parents. It will be most helpful as I update it each week with news, a calendar, important links, homework, vocabulary words, etc… If you do not have access to the Internet at home, please find a place where you can look at the website each week, such as work or the Moody Public Library. I update it every Monday (before 5:00 P.M.).
- Car Riders can be dropped off beginning at 7:15 and ending at 8:00 each morning in the back of the school.
- Our day begins at 7:45 A.M., but students are considered tardy after 7:55. It is crucial to your child’s success that he or she is at school on time and prepared for each day. We begin class work promptly at 7:45 A.M.
- Students cannot enter the building before 7:15 (unless they are in the extended day program….see below). Teachers and staff members are not on duty until 7:15, so it is unsafe for your child to enter the school before then. Students who enter the building after 7:15 and before 7:35 must report to the gym or to the lunchroom (if they eat breakfast at school). I will pick up my students from the gym by 7:35 each morning and bring them to the classroom. Another teacher will walk my students from the lunchroom to our classroom by 7:45.
- The morning segment of the extended day program will NOT continue this year due to the low number of participants last year, however afternoon care will continue. The after-school program begins at 2:40 and ends at 6:00.
- Pick-up will begin at 2:40 in the back of the school. Buses will unload and load in the front of the school. No walkers or classroom pick-ups are allowed. Car riders must have a car rider tag in order to pick up a student. Please read about car rider procedures in the Moody Elementary Student Handbook.
- If your child is arriving at school late or being checked out early, please come to the office and sign the check-in/check-out sheet. Only those people listed on your child’s check-in/check-out sheet will be able to check your child out of school. The person checking out your child must also show a picture I.D. This is all for the safety of your child.
- Please get a visitor’s pass before going to a classroom for any reason. Visitors without passes will be sent back to the office. It would be greatly appreciated if you would call me ahead of time to let me know you are coming to the classroom. Parents are certainly welcome to come into our classroom, but please remember that it is very important that our lessons go uninterrupted. If you would like to schedule a conference, please call the school and leave a message with the office. I will return your call as soon as possible.
- Any change in transportation (even for one day only) must be submitted in writing (by note or fax from the parent). PARENTS MAY NOT CHANGE ANY TRANSPORTATION STATUS BY PHONE!
- Regular student attendance is extremely important. When your child is absent, please send a written excuse or a doctor’s excuse the next day to avoid truancy. Students with 3 or more unexcused absences will be turned over to the St. Clair County Early Warning Program. Please read more about attendance, absenteeism, and early warning in the MES Handbook and the St. Clair County Schools Code of Conduct Handbook.
- Please review the MES and Code of Conduct handbooks with your child. It is important for him or her to know about school and county procedures.
- If any personal information (address, place of employment, phone numbers) changes throughout the year, please be sure to make the changes in the office, and send the information to me as well.
- Lunch prices are $1.75 for student lunches. Reduced lunches are $0.40. Breakfast is $1.00. Reduced breakfast is $0.30. To qualify for free or reduced priced lunches, the necessary paperwork is required. No charges will be permitted. You may pay weekly or monthly for your convenience. Visitor lunches cost $3.00. Please read more about lunch and breakfast in the MES Handbook or our class website.
- All money brought to school (lunch, snack, drinks, field trips, etc…) needs to be in an envelope and labeled with the child’s name, teacher’s name, and what the money is for. Please place all money envelopes in your child’s Boomerang Binder zipper pocket. If you are writing a check, please be sure that there is a telephone number on the check. Checks without telephone numbers are returned to me, and I then have to take the time to look up phone numbers to write on checks. Also, please remember to write your child’s lunch number on all lunch checks. I also highly recommend that you pay weekly or monthly for lunches, simply because it is more convenient for everyone. You may also bring snacks and drinks (non-carbonated) from home.
- Please do not send any lunches or snacks that need to be heated.
- Please do not send glass items or carbonated drinks for lunch or snack.
- There will only be two parties per year, Christmas and End-of-Year, at which parents are invited to attend. On Halloween, students may wear a non-scary costume for school-wide trick-or-treating, but there will be no special snack. Easter and Valentine's Day will be "special snack" days only with no goodie bags or egg hunts.
- Toys are not allowed at school. I will take up toys and hold them until the last day of school. This includes hand-held games, stuffed animals, sporting equipment, etc… If there is a special day when toys are allowed, students and parents will be notified.
- Progress Reports will go out every 4½ weeks, and report cards will be sent home at the end of each 9-week period.
- Please be sure you have signed all forms handed out at Orientation and return them to the classroom as soon as possible.
- I will have a “wish list” posted on our class website this year. Any donations from the list would be extremely appreciated.
- We are looking for businesses to adopt classrooms. Let me know if you have a business or know of one that will sponsor a classroom. The business would provide financial assistance to events, fundraisers, and supplies to our classroom throughout the year.
Parent/Teacher Communication
I believe that it is very important that teachers have open and frequent communication with all parents or guardians. One way to communicate weekly with parents is by sending home a newsletter/homework sheet called Mrs. Green’s Gazette every Monday. This sheet will be sent home in your child's Boomerang Binder. You can also check out this class website, from which you can email me, keep up with events on the monthly calendar, and check out many great web sites for your child to practice skills. I will make every effort to keep this website updated.
Please feel free to contact me at school, but please do not call during class time. Our class schedule will be posted on the website very soon, so you may contact me before or after school, or during my planning time.
I will not accept a telephone call during instructional time unless it is an emergency. I will provide you with my cell phone number if you will email me (see below) and ask for it. The best ways to reach me without interrupting class is to either text me or call and leave a message in the office. Please do NOT call my cell phone number during school hours. Thank you.

Boomerang Binders: Each student will use his or her 1-inch blue binder as his/her “Boomerang Binder.” It is called this because all communication between school and home will be in this binder, and it will be brought to school and send home each and every day. The binder will have dividers in order to keep the contents organized. Please look (thoroughly) inside your child’s binder each night for notes, homework, discipline report, our class gazette, the School Home Connection, graded work, the monthly lunch menu, study guides, etc…
It is crucial that your child be responsible for his or her binder for as you can see, it will contain all forms of communication between school and home. Please be sure that all money is in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, my name, and what the money is to be used for, and placed in the zipper pocket in the Boomerang Binder.
Newsflash: PLEASE sign up for the Newsflash on the class website. You can add you cell phone number and/or email address, and I will send you important announcements and messages regarding our class and school.
If you provide your cell phone number, all messages will be sent as a text message. This will insure that you receive important messages immediately. This is particularly useful during early dismissals.
I have set my Newsflash to be password protected. Please email me and ask for the password.
I am looking forward to an exciting year with your child in my classroom. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Let’s work together to meet the needs of your child. Thank you for your support!
Other Information
Please remember to initial both discipline reports and homework checklists every night.
Students who do not pull an "Oops" card throughout the week may bring a small toy or game on Fridays. However, no electronic games are allowed.
Please remember that the best way to study for vocabulary and multiplication is by making flash cards using index cards.
I would also like to remind everyone that you can pay for your child's lunch account online. Click on "Lunch" on the side bar to access the link. Thank you!
