Beginning Of Year Information

Welcome to my class!!! I am looking foward to a great school year. The
office has asked that we pass along some information to you that will help
you prepare for the upcoming school year.

Doors open at 7:15 a.m. School begins at 7:45 a.m. Doors will remain open
until 8:00. Students are tardy at 8:00 a.m. and must be brought by a parent
to the office to be checked in before proceeding to class. Dismissal is at
2:32 p.m. Please pick up car riders by 3:00 p.m.
Please arrive on time, and try not to sign your child out early if possible.
It is crucial to your child's success that he or she is at school on time and
prepared for each day.

If your child is arriving at school late or being checked out early, please
come to the office and sign the check-in/check-out sheet. Only those people
listed on your child's check-in/check-out sheet will be able to check your
child out of school. Anyone checking a student out during the school day will
be required to present photo identification and be listed on the child's
check out sheet completed by the parent before that child will be allowed to
leave campus.

Any changes in transportion (even for one day only) must be submitted in
writing (by note or fax from the parent). Parents may not change any
transportation status by phone! Make sure your child knows how they are
getting home before they come to school.

In order for you to pick up in the car rider line, the car rider sign given
to you at parent orientation must be visible on your rear view mirror.
Children will not be allowed to enter cars not posting the sign.
This is for the safety of our children and to help the car rider line go as
smoothly as possible.

We require that anyone visiting a student be listed by the parent on the
student’s information sheet. All parents/visitors must come to the office
and show photo identification in order to receive a visitor’s badge. This is
for the safety of all students!!!!

We are asking for a $35 donation fee per student. Donations will be used to
help supply items for our school, not provided through other state, federal,
or county funding. Make checks payable to M.E.S.

Lunch prices are $2.00 for regular and $0.40 for reduced. Breakfast is $1.25
for regular and $0.30 for reduced. No charges will be premitted. You may pay
weekly or monthly for your convience. Free or reduced lunch forms will be
sent home. Please do not send glass items or carbonated drinks for lunch.

All money brought to school for (lunch, snacks, drinks, fieldtrips, etc.)
need to be in an envelope and labeled with the child's name, teacher's name,
and what the money is to be used for. Separate lunch money from fieldtrip
money, snack money, etc. They go to different people and accounts. Place all
money envelopes in the front pocket of your child's binder.

Snacks and drinks arrange from $0.70-$1.35. Drinks are $1.35 and snacks are
$0.70- $1.25. You may bring snacks and drinks from home.

Only two parties will be held per year, at Christmas and the end of the year
party. Parents are welcomed to attend these two parties. Only commercially
purchased and sealed refreshments allowed. All other holidays will
be celebrated with a special snack only. Parents may send snacks as
coordinated by the teacher, and the teacher will distribute at break time.

Birthdays are happy events students like to share at school. If any student
would like to celebrate their birthday at school, the same guidelines for
special snack should be followed. A simple snack should be sent by the
parent and will be distributed by the teacher at snack time. This allows us
to "celebrate" without taking away from valuable instruction time.

Our PTO needs volunteers and memebers. We are looking for businesses to
adopt classrooms. Let me know if you have a business or know of one that
will sponsor a classroom.

Toys are not allowed at school. I will take up toys and hold them until the
last day of school. This includes hand-held games, stuffed animals, etc. If
there is a special day where toys are allowed, students and parents will be
notified.

When your child is absent, please send in a written excuse or a doctor's
excuse the next day to avoid truancy. Early warning is enforced in St. Clair
County.

Curriculum, discipline, homework, grading policies, and etc. will be in a
packet for you at parent orientation before school begins.

Please review the county and local school handbooks with your child. Sign
and return the forms, located in the back of each handbook, stating that you
have read both handbooks.

Progress reports will go out every 4 1/2 weeks, and report cards will be
issued at the end of each 9 weeks. I will also be sending home a weekly
grade sheet with graded papers in a folder, each Tuesday, located in your
child's front pocket of their binder. This will keep you informed on how
your child is doing on a weekly basis.

It is important that you participate in your child's education. If you have
a need for a conference, please contact me at the school, 640-2180, so we can
arrange a convenient time. I will return your call as soon as possible. You
can also email me at miranda.mitchell@sccboe.org.

If any personal information (address, place of employment, phone numbers)
changes throughout the year, please be sure to make the changes in the
office, and send the information to me as soon as possible.

Any other questions concerning procedures please refer to the Moody
Elementary Parent/Student Handbook.

Once again, I look foward to the new school year with you and your child.
Together we can provide a positive foundation for your child's future.

                                                  Thank You,
                                                  Miranda Mitchell
