Thirty-six students at Prattville Elementary
School have been involved in a special after
school tutorial program in Math since early February. Eight teachers work two days a week after
school to help these “at-risk” students to strengthen weak academic areas
in preparation for achievement testing and the Alabama Reading and Math
Test.
It is hoped that by giving these children a little extra
help in their weak academic areas, they will stand a greater chance of success
on the SAT-10 and the ARMT.
Special thanks to those teachers and administrators
assisting in the project.

“Students had the opportunity to vote on their favorite
Dr. Seuss book”.
|
|
On Thursday, March 2nd,
we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and NEA’s
“Read Across America” by having a “Read-In” from 6:00 – 7:30pm
in the school cafeteria. Dean Argo, Community Leader and City
Council Representative, read Hooray
For Diffendoofer Day!” to
approximately 80 students and parents dressed in their pajamas and
relaxing
on their favorite blanket or sleeping bag.
Members of PAWS
(Pets are
Wonderful Support) came with their K-9 friends and shared
a
favorite book, too!
Students at PES had a week-long opportunity to vote on their favorite
Dr. Seuss
book and the winning book Green Eggs
and Ham was read
aloud by guest Montgomery County Public Librarian, Mary Wilhoite. A
treat was Prattville’s
own IDOL, Micah Williams singing his rendition
of “Long
Black Train”.
To conclude the program, Prattville
Elementary School’s
reading
coach read Peeping Beauty
with some surprise guests pirouetting in
the background in their tutus!!

|
Jan Murray, and Assistant Principal Nancy Jackson
for their
organization of this event.

The purpose of the “Read-In” is to promote leisure reading and
stressed that reading can provide a
meaningful family experience.

The purpose of a newsletter is to provide specialized
information to a targeted audience. A school newsletter can be a great way
to develop a strong relationship with parents.
First choose a
short title for your newsletter— something like "School News," or
“Back to School.” As you choose the title, also take time to think
|
|
|
about the newsletter’s theme. What important messages do
you want to send parents and families?
Next, establish how much time and money you can spend on
your newsletter. These factors will help determine how frequently you
publish the newsletter and its length.
Use the body of your school newsletter to keep parents
apprised of major assignments and class events, as well as of any school
district news.
