About Me

This is my third year to teach at Prattville High School. I graduated
from Samford University in Birmingham with a BA degree in both English and
History, and I received my Master's degree in Secondary English Education
from Auburn University. My husband and I enjoy spending most of our free time
with our Golden Retriever Tubby.
I find literature, writing, and the numerous stories of people and
events in history rewarding, and my passion is to share both subject areas
with others. Most importantly, I desire to reveal how both literature and
history are two subject areas that cannot be divorced from one another and in
fact, when taught alongside each other, only have the potential to enhance
the another. I am excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to
exploring and bridging these subjects with my students. Please click on the
Teacher Email link on the left side of this screen if you wish to contact me.

Mrs. Howe's Classroom Mission

My classroom mission for the English 10, Honors English 9, and PreAP
World History 9 classroom is to challenge students in the areas of writing,
listening, reading, and research so that they may see the value of competence
in such areas for their future lives. I want students to view literature and
history as a retreat where questions concerning important life decisions can
be learned. I want students to view writing as a powerful tool that can be
both fulfilling personally as well as beneficial for expressing themselves in
a more formal way, and I want students to know how to use research as a
powerful tool that can create a finished product that is uniquely theirs. I
also want students to hone the skill of listening in order to use it to their
advantage later in life. Finally, I want students to learn respect, critical
thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and responsibility through the
presentation of these areas.
