Announcements

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break. I enjoyed spending time
with my family and friends. I have missed all of the children and I can’t
wait to hear all of their adventurous stories from the holidays!

Before we left for the holidays I sent a new schedule home. The new
schedule is effective as of today. Please take note of the time changes for
eating lunch with your child, scheduling appointments, and check outs. If
you have misplaced your schedule, please let me know and I will be happy to
replace it for you! It is also listed on our class website under Class
Schedule.

Our January Book It goal is 7 books with an 80% average. I expect each
child to be responsible for meeting their goal. Your child’s AR book is on
their level, so they should be able to read their chosen book from the
library. Reading at home is very important! It will help your child become a
better reader. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Math: We will begin learning Subtraction Concepts.

Reading: The story selection for the week is Jan’s New Home. Our
comprehension test will be given on Thursday. The high frequency words are
also assessed on the test. Please review them each night!! They are listed in
your child’s Reading Homework Folder. Reminder: Please complete homework
daily.

Spelling: Our spelling words contain ending –es; plural -es. Our test will be
given on Friday. Please practice daily. The words are listed in your child’s
Reading Homework Folder. Your child’s handwriting also affects their grade.
They must use lowercase letters. Please stress the importance of neat work.
The two high frequency words will no longer be counted on the test. However,
they will be called out for extra points. Your child can earn one extra point
for each word spelled correctly. Please continue to practice them!

Grammar: The students will be studying verbs that do not add -s.

If you have an questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email
me.

Love,
Miss Powell
