FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Some questions I've been asked recently...
  1. My child's grades do not appear to be updated in STI. Why aren't they entered yet?
  2. How is make-up work handled for your classes?
  3. What is the best way to reach you?
  4. Do you have a wish list?

My child's grades do not appear to be updated in STI. Why aren't they entered yet?

Once I enter grades at school it takes up to a full 24 hours for
the grades to post online (and on occasion, longer). Please keep
in mind that I teach multiple subjects and 26+ students. Grading does take some
time, particularly with tests. I post
assignments for the previous week each Tuesday, so they will
appear in STI on Wednesday night. I recommend that parents check
grades each Wednesday night when they are most up-to-date.
Since I enter grades whenever I have a free moment, looking on
other days may not adequately reflect your child's standings.
Please note that it may take longer to grade make-up work than
regular assignments.

How is make-up work handled for your classes?

When a child is absent make up work is collected in a folder on their desk.
If you would like to pick up your child's work
at the end of the day, you must email me by 10AM.
Make up work will be sent to the office,
or home with another child, ONLY when requested by you.

When a student has an excused absence, he/she has 2 days to
complete missed work. For extended absenses, arrangements may be
made with me if the child needs more time. For my
classes, work that is missed is recorded in STI as a zero. As
soon as the make-up work is graded, the zero will be replaced
with the make-up work grade. The purpose of this is so that you
can see what work is still outstanding. If no grade is recorded,
you cannot "see" the assignment in STI. Please allow 1 week from
the time make-up work is turned in before the grade is posted in
STI. It takes a little while to get make-up work graded,
particularly when many students are absent.
