Kindergarten News

Mrs. Nolan

February 6, 2012

Last week we discussed the groundhog and predicted whether we thought he would see his shadow or not. We were excited to hear that Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow. Some of the children are still hoping for snow, so they were glad we will have six more weeks of winter.

We also celebrated our 100thday of school on Monday. The children enjoyed their 100thday snack and all the activities with the number 100. Thanks to all of you who sent items for our snack. We will be having the leftover snack this week during snack time.

Valentine’s Day Party

Another event that we are looking forward to is our Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 10th. I just love to watch the children open their valentines. It is almost as exciting for them as Christmas. Please remember to send your child’s $2.00 to help pay for the items for the pizza party by Wednesday, if you have not already done so.

Also remember to send your child’s valentines by Friday morning. As I told you in last week’s newsletter, please make sure your child’s name in on the back of each valentine and who the valentine is going to on the envelope. A list of the children’s names was on the back of the Valentine News letter that I sent home last week. This will make it easier for your child to deliver them on Friday morning. They will open their valentines from each other during the party.

Valentine Party Help

If you are planning to come and help set up for the party, I will need you to be at school at 1:45. Parents will not be allowed to come down to our room until 1:45. The party will begin when the children some in from last recess at 2:00. They will be having an early recess that day.

Progress Reports

Progress reports for the third nine weeks will be sent home on Wednesday. Third nine weeks is full of skills that are a little more difficult for some children to master. Please look at the skills your child needs help in learning and go over these skills with them at home. It is very easy for children to begin to get behind during the third nine weeks. Any extra help you can give them at home will make it easier for your child. Please sign and return the progress report on Thursday. If you need a copy of the report just send a note and I will copy to for you.

Book Box Books

One day this week your child will be bringing home several books that they have been working with over the past few months. Please take time and let your child read these books to you. They may need help with some of the words since they are not our usual sight words. Some of the books are ones that we really had fun reading and acting out in class.
