Dear Parents,
Our Track and Field day will be tomorrow, May 7. We will leave here
around 8:15 and meet you at the track at 8:30. Your child needs to wear
tennis shoes. Please check the weather to see what the morning temperature
will be. You might want to apply sunscreen to your child, as well.
Your child should have returned his/her permission slip for our upcoming
field trip. On Friday, May 17, we will be going to Lake DeGray State Park.
If you have not already, please sign and return the bottom portion asap!
Progress reports went home last Wednesday. Please sign and return those asap!
In phonics, we will be learning to read and spell words with the “soft c
and soft g” sounds. They can be spelled with ce, ci, or cy, and ge, gi or
gy. You can find these sounds in words such as: mice, celery, giraffe, and
vegetables. Our sight words this week are: put, like, was and good. Your
child should be able to read these words in about 3 seconds when they are
presented to them, and should be able to spell them, as well. Don’t forget
to review previous week’s sight words. They will be popping up on the
dictation sentences on spelling tests occasionally.
This week in math, we will finish chapter 10, which covers end of year
review. Your child will be bringing home a study guide on Thursday, and we
will have our test on Friday. We will be working on subtraction this week in
our Facts in a Flash.
In writing we’ll be reviewing alliteration, onomatopoeia, word choices
and comparisons.
In social studies this week, we’ll continue reviewing the seven
continents. We’ll also learn to locate the North and South Poles and the
Equator on the globe. We will be focusing on the continents of Australia
and South America this week.. We’ll continue our study of Cinderella stories
by reading Cindy-Ella, an Aussie Cinderella and The Hummingbird King.
This week in science, we will continue our study of endangered species of
Arkansas.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any help to you or
your child.
			Sincerely,
			Janice Carhart
