Fall Semester

Students read one-page short stories from SunDog Publications.

Students analyze one-page short stories.
<LI>
Students write one-page short stories.
<LI>
Students analyze the author's use of literary elements: theme, point of view, characterization, setting, and plot.
<LI>
Students analyze the author's use of figurative langauge: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, symbolism, allusion, and imagery.

Students compare and contrast the illustrations of the same theme in two different literary genres.</LI></UL>

Students will read Edith Hamilton's Mythology.

Students will trace the hero's journey in several myths.
<LI>
Students will find allusions to Greek mythology in contemporary culture.
<LI>
Students will write stories using vocabulary words based on words from Greek Mythology.

Students will write character sketches of Greek mythological figures.
<LI>
Students will read Greek tragedies.
<LI>
Students will analyze recurring themes in Greek mythology.
