Text Book Used: World Cultures and Geography. www.classzone.com for web
quests and current events.
The Nystrom Desk Atlas will be used for our Atlas Activities per Unit or
Theme.

Grading
Assignments: 25%. We are on a Differentiated Instruction Plan. We will have
assignments that will cover different levels of learning. C level activities
will be facts based learning. They will include: Atlas skills, Vocabulary,
Lecture Notes, Reading Guides, Maps, and Video Notes. Most C level assignments
are worth 10 points. If all of this level is complete, you will earn a C for
that chapter under the assignment heading. B level activities will be the
application of learned facts for the chapter or unit. This will be a choice
of the student and one must be done to have enough points to get a B on that
chapter/unit. There is usually a choice of three or four to pick from. If
you choose not to do it, you will receive a 0 for the B level assignment. B
level assignments are worth 25 points. A level activities are the Critical
thinking/research of the chapter/unit. These may be worked on during
Differentiated Instruction time as a choice for the student. Most of the time
this will be done outside of class as homework. A level assignments are worth
35 points and must be typed according to report format. They may also be done
as a power point presentation. To receive an A in a unit, you must do all of
the C level, one B level and one A level assignment. If you choose not to do
an assignment, you will receive a 0 for that assignment. Due dates will be
told to the students who will write them down in their planners. Students
will receive an assignment sheet for each chapter/unit that will have the C,
B and A level work. When the student is finished with an assignment, they
will have to answer a few questions (oral defense) on the work and I will sign
off their sheet. On the due date I will collect the sign off sheet and record
the points for each level. Failure to turn in the sheet will result in a 0
for the unit. Please check your folder weekly to make sure you are getting
the work done. Please use a full sheet of paper and make sure your name,
class and date are on it on the top left of the paper. Do not use Red ink or
the likes.

Tests: 30 %. Test are given at the end of a chapter or unit. Students will
take their tests on the Responder computer program. Students have homework
every night. They should study their notes/work/maps at least 15 minutes a
night. There are NO retakes.

Quizzes 10%: These will be un- announced and will cover facts from the C
level assignments.

Labs: 15% : We will attend the Library every other Thursday to work on
Current Events of Regions, PLATO, Web Quests or Research. Students will work
in different settings: Self, Partner and Small Group. Power Point or posters
will be choices for group labs. Students will have to present to the class
their projects for a grade. The text books web sight is www.classzone.com
and may be finished at home. Labs will be due the following Tuesday.

Final Exam: 20%. Material for the semester will be tested including maps.
It is important to keep your notebook organized.

Make-Up Work
You are responsible for obtaining and making up any work which you miss due to
any absence from class. Some activities done during your absence have no way
of being made up such as videos. (you will have an alternate assignment).
You have one day for each day you miss to complete the assignment. (Not a
problem because we do grade checks on a chapter not an assignment). You may
work at home on a B or A level activity if you are home sick. Unexcused
absences will receive a Zero on that assignment. Test must be made up during
the week at a time the instructor gives. Failure to make up a test will
result in a 0 for that test.

Supplies:
You will need your Yellow folder for World Studies. Come with a blue or black
ink pen. A number 2 pencil for tests and colored pencils for maps. A
highlighter is suggested to help you remember key facts/places. You will need
to write your assignments down in your planer for each day to help you plan.
Paper should be in your notebook for note taking and quizzes at all times.
Keep your class rules in the front of your notebook.

General Rules:
1.	No food or drinks allowed in the classroom or tech lab except water
2.	No hats are to be worn in class. Cell phones need to be put away so I do
not see them.
3.	When instruction is taking place, the instructor is the only one talking
(including videos or presentations). I will give you a chance to ask
questions at the proper time. Putting your head down is not an option and you
will be sent to I.C.R.
4.	No talking at any time during work time. You will have class time to work
every day. Due to the very large class sizes it must be so I can work with
small groups or individual students.
5.	DO NOT write in the text books or test booklets. Use your paper to take
notes.
6.	Teacher Desk is off Limits to students.
7.	All grooming activities are to be outside of the classroom
8.	Head phones are not allowed due to Principal’s rule
9.	Come to Class ready to learn. This means being ready to go before the tardy
bell rings. This is a required class needed for graduation. You must pass
with 60% or better or you must repeat.
10.	If you need to go to the Nurse you must do so before class. Emergency
only. Restroom passes only given if you are in good standing with 70% or
better. Do not ask to go while lecture is going on. You will have three
passes per semester. If you do not have at least a 70% or better and you have
an emergency, you will do time for time. (Keep at least a 70%)

Consequences:

1.	Warning
2.	Time for Time or Student Conference
3.	Detention/ICR with a parent conference

Procedures:
1.	Check for assignment handout by the cabinets. Check the board for the warm
up activity and objectives every day.
2.	Have your pencil sharpened before class starts.
3.	Get your warm up sheets for the week out and ready to follow what is on the
white board (Due every other Friday 30 pts.)
4.	When warm up is finished I will start the lecture or group instruction. I
will go about 20 minutes leaving you time to complete the work. Do not waste
class time. I will give you an alternate assignment if you feel you can waste
time.
5.	Put all of your work in your folder organized by chapter. Do not just fold
and throw into your back pack. This is how students loose their assignment
points for the chapter.
6.	The last two minutes of class will be clean up. Text Books must be on the
top right of desk with the Atlas on top of it. Trash must be picked up from
your work area. This needs to be done before I dismiss the class.
7.	On test days,
8.	Extra assignments will be placed in the wood shelf if you miss a day. You
are responsible to pick it up or ask me for your make up work.
9.	When going into the tech lab you will initial by your name and pick up the
activity. Same rules apply to the tech lab as they do for our classroom.
10.	Text books are in the library to finish work not done in class. I will
only check text books out for emergencies.

I have read and understand what is expected of myself/son/daughter for this
class and agree to perform at my very best and if I do not understand, I will
ask for help or request tutoring. If I fall below a 70% I will need to have
my grade signed by my parent/guardian on a bi- weekly report. As a parent or
guardian I will check my son’s/daughter’s folder and assignment sheet, and
sign on the right hand side for each assignment when they complete their
assignment. Homework is every night to study at least 15 minutes or to finish
any assignment that is not finished in class or the lab. PLATO is due the
last Friday before the finals.
