About The Teacher

Mr. Matlosz is starting his 19th year teaching high school students.  I am 
starting my 10th year here at Apache Junction High School.  I have my B.S. 
from the University of New Mexico(1989)and my M.A. from Western New Mexico 
University (1993).  I am certified in the following areas by the state of 
Arizona:  Social Studies K-12, Physical Education K-12, and Special Education 
K-12 (SLD, ED, MIMR). I am currently the Social Studies department head at
A.J.H.S. While at the University of New Mexico I was a three year 
letterman for baseball with two of our teams qualifying for the Regional
tourney. My 1984 team was ranked 17th in the Nation (42-17) and still
hold the record for most wins in a season at my college.  I have played  mens 
fast
pitch since I graduated high school and our 2001 Phoenix team took 12th in the
NAFA world tourney in Salem, Oregon. I was the head baseball coach at Gallup
High School in Gallup, New Mexico from 1994-1997 being part of  two teams to
state. 
I am the head softball coach for the Lady Prospectors going on my 3rd year.  
We
were State 4A II qualifiers for the last two years. I am also a assistant
freshman football coach for the Prospectors going on my third year after
coaching 16 years of Varsity football at two different schools. I love sports,
current events, and my five telescopes ranging from my 4.5 inch all the way to
my 12.5 inch monster that we use at the dark skies with the East Valley
Astronomy club.  I love to stay fit with swimming, wt. training, golf (21
handicap), men' s fast pitch softball and racket ball.  I am a active member
of my church.  My wife is Mrs. Candyce Matlosz who also teaches English at
Apache Junction High School.  We will be married 14 years on Aug.7!!!!  We
have one Siamese cat,Isis, and a Asian Smoke kitten named Boreales.

To apply history and current events to make my students thinkers and future
leaders of the world.
