This Quarter...3rd Quarter, Halfway There!
Learning Strategies:We will continue to use Cornell Notes with learning Social Studies and Science topics. This is a study tool that you will be using through the rest of your years in CUSD and can take on to college with you. It is a bit time consuming, but really helps you review material. We will continue to use Thinking Maps to summarize information. Reading:We will be reading breaking into literature study groups and each reading a different novel. After discussing these, we will do a fun creative group power point project with these stories continuing to analyze how changes are made when the media is changed from book to movie. The two book reports this quarter will a Historical Fiction book and a Biography.
Writing:This quarter we will work on comparing and contrasting information and supporting statements with clear examples. We will begin looking at persuasive writing. We will also learn about the format of a business letter and write to one of our stock companies.
Math:We will continue working on decimals, percents, and integers as well as working on solving equations. We will put all of these into the context of problem solving.
Science:The first project will be completing the Science Fair projects and writing an essay about how our experiments relates to science in the real world. We will then move into our PBL project of Terracycle, we are having a demonstration of that early in Feb. as well as the CATS fair in May. We will also be studying cells.
Social Studies:We will continue with our study of the stock market. We will be studying Ancient Greece andRomethis quarter, always a popular topic. We will be listening to the book seriesPercy Jackson and the Olympians, which has a great modern twist on Greek Mythology.
We will continue working on personal accountability and responsibility for class work. These are such important skills to have as the students move on to Jr. High next year. Thank you for your support in teaching these to your children.
