AR-Accelerated Reader

ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

Check out the follow websites to help you better understand the Accelerated
Reader Program.

Accelerated Reader:
Accelerated Reader is the reading program that we will be focusing on all
year. Each quarter your child will take a STAR test which shows what level
your child is reading at. For example if they tested at a 2.5, that means
they are reading at a second grade, fifth month level. Once they have been
tested they will be given an “individual” goal that they will be responsible
for earning each quarter. Goals are given in points and are given based on
their current reading level. Each week your child is expected to earn 10% of
their goal in order to reach 100% of their goal by the end of the quarter. So
your child should be taking 2-3 tests a week depending on their reading level
and goal. It is very important your child stays on target with their goal for
the quarter (rewards, recess and other things may be lost if they do not do
so). Each quarter they will get a new goal and hopefully a higher reading level.

IMPORTANT WEBSITES

Please check out this website to understand more about the Accelerated Reader
Program. You can set up an account that allows you to access all of your
child's AR information. You can also receive emails updating you every time
your child takes an AR test.
Accelerated Reader described on Rennaissance Place website (http://www.renlearn.com/ar/)

This is a great website that helps you look up an AR book's reading level and
how many points it is worth. It also allows you to look up whether a book
from home is an AR book. This is a great website to use throughout the school
year!
