What are the hours for kindergarten?
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:15 AM - 12:00 PM are school days.
Monday and Wednesday are Home Based Learning Days, planned by the
teacher and supervised by the parent for approximately 2 1/2
hours.
What are the rules for kindergarten?
Be safe. Be kind. Follow directions. Those three pretty much
cover everything! :)
Can parents volunteer at school?
Absolutely! At CRCS, parents are encouraged to volunteer in some
capacity for four hours each month. Some parents help in the
classroom while others help during our lunch time or from home.
We want and need your help.
Do you teach phonics?
Of course! Learning phonics is part of learning to read. In our
classroom, we have a balanced reading program that teaches
phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension
strategies. We use a variety of materials: big books and other
enlarged text for shared reading, children's literature for read
alouds, leveled and decodable readers for guided reading, as well
as a systematic scope and sequence for the teaching of
phonics skills. The children use their phonics skills to write
stories and messages. As they learn more phonics, they are able
to apply this learning to their spelling.
What is a HBL Day?
At CRCS, we have a unique combination of learning at school and
at home. All students attend school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and
Fridays to be taught gradelevel objectives with their teacher and
peers. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the students are working on
grade level objectives with their parent at home. We call these
days, Home Based Learning Days. The assignments are
planned by the classroom teacher but the work is done at home
under the guidance of the parent. This way the kids get a great
combination of group and one-on-one instruction.
How long has CRCS been around?
CRCS was started in August of 2000 by a small group of parents.
It's been amazing to see how the school has continued to growover
the years. We became our own 501(c)3 non profit organization in
the summer of 2009.
Do the kids get special classes?
Kindergarten kids are in the classroom with their teacher all
morning but the 1st through 8th graders have "special" classes.
Depending on the grade level, they may have Spanish, Art
Masterpiece, Music, and Physical Education. We do not have a
computer lab but all teachers have a laptop in their classroom
for use by the students and teacher.
Do you go on any field trips and can parents come along?
We usually go on 5-6 field trips scattered throughout the school
year. Field trips are planned and scheduled by the teacher during
the summer. Some are the same each year, while others change
based upon what is available. We take one parent chaperone per 4
children. We do not allow siblings to attend the field trips as
they might distract the parent from fulfilling their role as
driver and chaperone for the kindergarten students.
Do all of the teacher's attend CrossRoads Nazarene Church?
Some do, some don't but we all attend Christian churches that
believe Jesus is God's Son and that the Bible is God's Holy Word.
Some of our teacher's attend Cornerstone, Chandler Christian,
Christ Life, The Grove, as well as Crossroads, and other churches
in the area.
Do the kids have access to computers?
We have one laptop per classroom for use by the teacher and
students. Students use the laptop during the morning to
supplement the reading, phonics, or math instruction. HomeBased
Learning Plans frequently direct parents to appropriate websites
for reading or math activities.
Can I come observe?
Sure! Just call the office manager at the school and make an
appointment.
Where can I get information about what is taught in Kindergarten at CRCS?
Check out this website. Click on Curriculum Overview to get a lot
of information.
Is the school private or charter?
CRCS is a private, Christian K-8 school. We are our own 501(c)3
organization. You can get more information at the school's
website. Check out www.crcsonline.com for our statement of faith,
tuition rates, and other helpful information like reviews by some
of our parents.
What is your class size?
We always try to keep the class size for kindergarten at
around 14. It's WONDERFUL for the kids and the teacher. :)
