Welcome ! My name is Jo Pittman. I have been teaching many years. My
assignments have included teaching elementary, secondary, special and adult
education classes. I am delighted to be teaching 9th grade English.
The texbooks for English are Elements of Literature and Elements of Writing.
The general goals are: the students will be introduced to a variety of
literary genre, learn to enjoy and appreciate it, be able to
compare/contrast and to analyze. In composition they will learn to express
themselves, to share information, to persuade, and to create. 480-649-6235
The students need to bring a three ringed binder to class with one section
devoted to English. They will need paper, pen or pencil, and their textbooks.
I expect students to be in their seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
I provide "bell work" which should be picked up as they enter the classroom,
and they should be working as I am taking roll.I ask students to be active
participants in class by answering questions, by joining in class
discussions, and by sharing pertinent information. I will NOT accept late
work unless I have a written excuse from the parent. In the opening letter
to you, you will find the grading scale to be used in this class.
I will provide the students with a form to write in their assigments and a
sheet for recording their grades. I expect them to share these with you so
that you will know what and how they are doing in class. If you need to
reach me by phone, it is usually easier to contact me at home than at school
because I do not teach everyday. You are always welcome to visit class! I am
looking forward to an enjoyable productive year with your children.
