Wednesday, October 5 author Joe Hayes will be visiting our campus. Students
are able to purchase a book and have it signed by him. A letter was sent home
with this information. Also, next Thursday, October 13 is our fall picture
day. Please be sure that students come to school in their uniform. I look
forward to meeting you on October 17, 18, or 19 at our parent/teacher
conference.
My lessons are designed to cover all of the Arizona State Standards. I have
so many fun things planned for your child this year. Math will be taught in
two parts, math 1 and math 2. Math 1 is when we do problem solving, and in
Math 2 we will use Terc which is a hands on way to learn math. In Language
Arts, we are going to learn about the several different forms of writing.
We will begin with writing personal narratives using the six traits writing
process. We will continue with writing fictional stories, a variety of
persuasive pieces, poems, and to close out the year, each student will have
to write their own research report. In reader’s workshop, we will continue
on becoming expert readers by practicing fluency, making inferences and
making personal connections through our reading. We will also become better
readers by learning how to locate and interpret information from different
forms of text. Fourth grade Social Studies is always my favorite! We spend
a large amount of time studying our state of Arizona. Your child will also
be required to complete a country report at the end of the year. Finally, we
will start off the school year with an exhilarating science unit about the
human body. As a part of this unit, your child will get to experience
dissecting owl pellets. This activity teaches them a lot about the different
parts of the body and it requires them to identify the bones of a rodent and
put the pieces back together. That is just a quick look into our exciting
school year! I have a lot planned, which is why it is so essential that your
child is in class everyday so they don’t miss a thing.
