Homework

Homework packets are distributed on Mondays. If it is a Monday holiday, the
packet comes home on Tuesday. Students should complete two pages per night
and then read for fifteen minutes with a parent or guardian. The packet should
be completed by Friday. I will accept early packets on Thursday but not before
then. It is not a race to see who can finish first. It is practice in skills
that have been taught in class. Students who do not turn in homework packet
will be working instead of playing during Friday free choice time. If there
are any problems completing the homework packet, notify me. Please do not do
your child's work for him.
Fifteen minutes of reading every night is the most important homework
assignment. Your child will select a book that is appropriate for his/ her
reading level. Read it. Look at specific words for spelling or
understanding. Read it again to increase speed and accuracy. Close the book
and ask your child: "What was the story about?", "Who is the main
character?", "Where does the story take place?", "Do you like this story?
Does it remind you of something in your own life?" Draw a picture of your
favorite part in the story.
