FIELD TRIP Friday is a field trip to the Science Center. Please make sure your child has a sack lunch with a drink. No extra money is allowed. CANDLE SALES Thanks so much for all of you who helps your children sell candles. I look forward to hearing just how well we did. Way to go Rams! PEP RALLY A pep rally will be held 7th period Friday. Sports teams and individual students will be recognized for various awards. CONFERENCES Conferences will be held Tuesday and Wednesday. Slips were sent home two weeks ago. If your child did not give it to you and you feel you need one, please contact me or any other of your child's teachers. DILLION'S NIGHT Thanks to all of you who went to Dillion's for our fundraiser. We made $240 in our effort to raise monies for Friendly Pines. A special thanks to Vangie Rodriquez who put this all together! WALKATHON Get those pledges going for your child to participate in the JOGATHON to benefit both Friendly Pines and the American Heart Association. CAMP FRIENDLY PINES COMMITMENT FORMS In order to help with our planning for camp in May, commitment forms went home today. Please complete the form and return it by next Wednesday. No money is due at this time. It is our hope that all students attend therefore scholarships are available. If you would like to attend as a chaperone, you need to let us know that as well. ZOYO AND CLEAN FREAK GIFT CARDS Please help support our camp efforts by purchasing $10 gift cards for either frozen yogurt, or a car wash. The Clean Freak cards have a $32 value...so it's certainly a bargain. SUPPLIES!!!!! I can't tell you how important it is for your child to have the necessary supplies each and every day. It is unnerving just how many students don't have sharpened pencils, pens, highlights or erasers. Trying to borrow a writing utensil or having to sharpen it in class takes valuable time away from instruction. Please check nightly with your child to make sure he/she has everything needed. CARDINAL CAMP Some of the Cardinal football players will be here on campus on Tuesday to work with 100 of our students, 25 which are 5th graders. Students were chosen randomly to attend. It is the second year of the program brought to us with the help of Linda Goodin from our very own Meadows cafeteria. I look forward to seeing the happy faces of those students who were able to attend. TWO HIPPIES PIZZA Please visit Two Hippies Pizza often throughout the year. Each time you go, please make sure to mention meadows and Friendly Pines. This wonderful restaurant will donate part of its profits towards our kids. If you visit on a Friday night, you'll find one of our very own 5th graders playing the ukulele for your entertainment. SPECIAL THANKS Thanks so much to Mr. Cook and Mrs. Csimadia for setting up two successful fundraisers for Friendly Pines. The DBacks game arranged by Mr, Cook brought us around &620 and Zoyo, set up by Mrs, Csimadia raised about $250. Please continue to look for opportunities to help us in our efforts to get our students to camp. If interested in working the snack shack in November, please let me know as soon as possible so you can be placed on the schedule. It's a fun place to work and only takes a a half hour or so. DBACKS and MEADOWS Help support both the DBacks and our 5th graders by purchasing DBacks tickets from Heidi in the front office for Sept 24th game. It's Ryan Robert's bobblehead night so come join the fun. $5 of each ticket purchased goes directly back to Meadows for Camp Friendly Pines. Seats are normally $20, yours for $12! PICTURE DAY!!! Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for picture day, Thursday, September 1. CAMP FRIENDLY PINES!!!! Once again we will be taking our students to Camp Friendly Pines in Prescott. The time of year has changed due to the number of new teachers in 5th grade as well as Mrs. Jacoby's pregnancy. Please let me know if you are interesting in attending or helping in any manner. It's a HUGE undertaking and we need YOU! BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Thursday, August 18 is Back to School Night. Teachers look forward to sharing with you a bit of what goes on here at Meadows. See you there! MAGAZINE SALES It's that time of year when families are asked to help in fundraising. Our big fundraiser of the year is the magazine drive. Renewals can be made through Meadows and the school gets the money! Please ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, relatives, doctors, etc., to help support Meadows through this event. Great prizes await your student! PTM MEMBERSHIP DRIVE PTM is having their membership drive as well. Please think of joining as a way of being informed and supporting Meadows. PTM does great things for our school so learn about them and take part! Be part of the solution! :) It was so nice to see many of you at our Welcome to Meadows 5th Grade Family Night. I hope those of you in attendance felt it worthwhile and enjoyable. I look forward to seeing you all at our Back to School Night Thursday the 18th. Please make sure to mark your calendar since we will be also discussing Camp Friendly Pines right after in the cafeteria. WELCOME TO MEADOWS!!!! This year promises to be a fantastic year. I look forward to working with you and your child this year to move him/her forward in the areas of math, science, and social skills. Please know that if you have any questions or concerns, the best way to reach me is through email. Although you can certainly come to my teacherweb page and click on the Email notice to the left of this screen, the best way is to simply write to krobello@msd38.org. This will eliminate your email going through a spam process in which I may not receive it for weeks. I've left some of the most important announcements from last year for you to browse though. Please sign up for Newsflash, check out the math book online, and collect not only box tops but Campbell soup labels, including all the other products besides soup Campbells creates. Save them up, stick them in a bag, and send them to me and I will make sure PTM gets them. Also make sote that the welcome potluck is Thursday the 11th of August. Please look for the flyer letting your know what your family needs to bring. Our vice principal will be cooking hotdogs, I believe, so plan on attending and get a chance to meet us as well as other Meadows' families. NEWSFLASH! Sign up for newsflash so you can receive updated email or text messages. Click on Newsflash to sign up! MATH BOOK ONLINE Please follow the steps below to get on the online Harcourt math book. This is handy for homework issues. There will often be times when assignments will be from the math book. Students are to simply go online and viola, there it is! They will need to record the answers in the appropriate format as we have discussed in class. When stuck on a concept, browse the table of contents of the book to gain some help. There are games and tutorials available on this site. Go internet! 1. Click on the Links button found on the left. 2. Go to the Harcourt link and click on e products. 3. type in one of the following usernames and passwords Username: WMATH7 Password: r4r4 OR Username: MROCKS2 Password: r8a5 ATTENTION ALL COOKS AND SHOPPERS! Just as a reminder, please bring in General Mills box tops. each one is worth $0.10. Doesn't sound like a lot, but they add up. Please check each item before throwing them out. Coke Rewards are also being collected to help acquire playground and p.e. equipment. Look for those 12 digit/number codes and send them in. If you haven't signed up for escrip, please do so; every penny counts when it comes to education. If you have already subscribed but have placed Simis as your home school, please take a few minutes and switch it over to Meadows! TAX CREDIT Remember that monies donated to the 5th grade to help with Friendly Pines can be used as a tax credit. If you or friends and family haven't done so, please consider doing so. Anyone residing in the state of Arizona may donate...my mother who lives in Sierra Vista does so every year. Simply write a check for the amount you'd like to donate...up to $200 for an individual or $400 for a couple...and send it in to Meadows. On the memo line, please make sure to designate Meadows 5th grade as the recipients. Thanks so much! LATE ASSIGNMENTS If your child is missing an assignment, it is up to him/her to get it turned in. Responsibility for task completion is the student's. Grades will be closing soon...so please ask them how they are doing and make sure to get online with Powerschool. Thanks! PLANNER SIGNATURES Please sign your child's planner nightly. This is a great communication piece between home and school. Homework should be recorded every Monday in my class. Look for notes from me from time to time. Please remind your children about the behavior contract. If a child has three behavior strikes, he/she cannot attend camp. I would hate for that to occur. I've been pretty lenient but that time is coming to a close with some of the students. Thanks!
