An ecosystem is all the living organisms in an area, and how they interact
with the non-living factors. Explain and discuss what you understand about
the ecosystem that we live in.

Vocabulary:
Biosphere, ecology, abiotic factor, biotic factor, population, community,
ecosystem

Assignment:	Reading, Discussions and Questions
Students will be reading and discussing our first unit in ecology; chapter 17
the living and non-living environment.

7th Homework
1. Daily reflection
2. Convert the following values:

	b. 453.278km =? dkm
	c. 0.03278dm	=? hm

8th Daily Journal
Explain and discuss what you know and understand about cellular
reproduction. Explain why cells divide.

Vocabulary:
Mitosis, chromosome, asexual reproduction

Assignment:	Reading, Discussions and Questions
Students will be reading and discussing our first unit in biology; chapter 16
cell growth and division.

7th Daily Journal
Explain and discuss different types of ecosystems you know of. What are the
different abiotic factors that affect the organisms?

Vocabulary:
Biosphere, ecology, abiotic factor, biotic factor, population, community,
ecosystem

Assignment:	Current Science – “Back to Eden”
Students will be reading and discussing an article which looks at the effects
of changing different abiotic conditions in an ecosystem.

7th Homework
Daily Reflection

8th Daily Journal
What makes an organism living? Explain and discuss what you know about
factors that determine classifying things as being alive.

Vocabulary:
Mitosis, chromosome, asexual reproduction

Assignment:	Current Science – “Alien Rain”
Students will be reading and discussing an article at the possibility of
alien life forms on earth and how they might reproduce.

8th Homework
Daily Reflection

Thursday August 21st, 2008

7th Daily Journal
Read “Life in a Community” pg 6 and 7 Populations and ecosystems and then
answer the following questions.
What organisms do you interact with in your community?
Which ones do you eat and which ones could eat you?
Which ones compete with you for food?
Which ones provide you with shelter?

Vocabulary:
Biosphere, ecology, abiotic factor, biotic factor, population, community,
ecosystem

Assignment:	Scientific Video – “Among the Wild Chimpanzees”
Students will be viewing and taking notes during a video that discusses Jane
Goodall and her work viewing populations of Chimpanzees in the wild.

7th Homework
Daily Reflection

8th Daily Journal
Use your text, write out the different steps of mitosis and explain what is
happening in each step. Explain the main reasons that cells divide.

Vocabulary:
Mitosis, chromosome, asexual reproduction

Assignment:	Scientific Video – “Mitosis and Meiosis”
Students will be viewing, taking notes on a video which explains and
demonstrates mitosis and meiosis. Students will be working on familiarizing
themselves with the steps of mitosis.
