What do you think causes them?

composite volcano, batholith, dike, sill, volcanic neck, caldera

Assignment:	Text Reading Chapter 9.2 and 9.3 “Causes and Types of Volcanoes”
The students will be group reading, discussing and answering questions about
the causes and types of volcanoes there are.

7th Homework
Daily Reflection (9.1 Section Assessment)
1.	How are volcanoes related to Earth’s moving plates?
2.	As rock material melts, it becomes less dense.  Explain what’s happening to
the atoms and molecules to cause this?
3.	Why does lava cool rapidly along a mid-ocean ridge?
4.	If the pacific plate stopped moving, what would happen to the island of Hawaii?


8th Daily Journal
Discuss, describe, and explain what you now understand about atoms, elements
and the periodic table.

This Weeks Vocabulary
Period, group, metal, nonmetal, metalloid

Assignment:	 Text Reading 3.1 “Introduction to the Periodic Table”
The students will be reading, discussing and answering questions about the
Periodic Table.

8th Homework
Daily Reflection (3.1 Assessment)
1.	Use the elements in period 4 to show how the physical state of elements
changes as the atomic number increases across a period.
2.	What are the two sections of the periodic table?
3.	Where are the metals located in the periodic table?  The metals?  The
metalloids?
4.	How would the modern periodic table be different if elements were still
arranged by average atomic mass instead of atomic number?  Give two specific
examples.
