Explain and discuss Alfred Wegner’s theory of continental drift.  Be sure to
explain the evidence he used to support it and the reasons why the scientific
world rejected his theory at first.

Students will be reading through and discussing the theory of Plate tectonics.

1.	Describe what occurs at plate boundaries that are associated with seafloor
spreading.
2.	Describe three types of plate boundaries where volcanic eruptions can occur.
3.	Explain how convection currents are related to plate tectonics.
4.	Think Critically Iceland is on a divergent boundary what natural disasters
might occur in Iceland.  Tibet is in the Himalayan Mountains at a convergent
boundary what disasters might happen there?  Why are some Icelandic disasters
not expected in Tibet?

1.	What are isotopes?
2.	How are radioactive isotopes used to detect health problems?
3.	Explain what is meant by radioactive decay.  How is the rate of radioactive
decay measured?
4.	Suppose you had two samples of the same radioactive isotope.  One sample
was 25g.  The other was 50g.  Would the same number of particles be ejected
from the sample in the first hour?  Explain.




Tuesday November 3rd, 2009

7th Daily Journal
Explain the 3 types of plate boundaries.  Explain where you find subduction
zones.  Why is there volcanic activity at some boundaries, but not at others?

Assignment:	Laboratory “Reconstructing Pangaea”
Students will construct a version of Pangaea based on Wegner’s evidence and
clues about continental drift.
1.	Make sure to follow and read all instructions of the laboratory
2.	Make sure that you Pangaea has a “key” or “legend” box
3.	Make sure that your paper is titled
4.	Make sure to color your Pangaea.  Neat and creative
5.	Finish your lab questions and glue them on the back of your Pangaea

Explain the theory of seafloor spreading.  Explain the different evidence for
seafloor spreading.  How does the theory of seafloor spreading give proof of
continental drift.

foil were important to the development of the model of the atom.  Explain why
the nuclear model of the atom changed to the electron cloud model.  Explain

fields.  It is also the location of Everglades National Park—a shallow river
system with highly polluted waters.  What kinds of pollutants do you think are
in the everglades?  How do you think they got there?
