Welcome to a new year at Maricopa Elementary School! I am looking
forward to a new year of learning, growing, and forming strong relationships
with students, parents, and colleagues.
My name is Brook McKenzie and this will be the beginning of my 10th
year of teaching. Eight of my years of teaching were spent in 3rd grade,
and the other in 1st. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a
Master's Degree in Education. I hold an Elementary Teaching License with an
endorsement in Early Childhood Education.
My husband and I relocated to Arizona from Portland, Oregon. We have
lived in Ahwatukee for the past two years with our two dogs, Langston and
Beatrice, and our two cats, Olive and Fatima. We have grown to love the
desert and are enjoying our exploration of Arizona.
When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with family and friends,
reading, indulging in my weakness for school and office supplies, and dabble
in different art mediums.
My classroom is one that supports the ideal that all students are
INNATELY GOOD and WANT TO LEARN, this is coupled with the never-ending
belief that students CAN ALL learn and WILL LEARN given the right
environment and motivation.
My mission for the class is that we will all work together: TEACHERS,
PARENTS, AND STUDENTS to create a safe, stimulating, and cooperative
learning environment. In this learning environment students will flourish
academically and socially and MEET/EXCEED the learning objectives for 3rd
grade.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in various LEARNING STYLES
and HANDS-ON learning experiences. They will work INDEPENDENTLY and
COOPERATIVELY. The classroom will be STUDENT-CENTERED. IT IS MY HOPE THAT
STUDENTS WILL BECOME PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR OWN ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL GROWTH---
-AND THAT THEIR 3RD GRADE YEAR WILL FOSTER AN INNATE DESIRE TO BE LIFELONG
LEARNERS.
I LOOK FORWARD TO A FANTASTIC YEAR!
