Palominas School District

The purpose of the Before and After School Program is to provide an extension of the excellence in education standard of the Palominas School District. We will provide a safe, caring, and fun environment while encouraging your child’s social, physical, and academic development.

The Before and After School Program is currently located at Coronado School.  Transportation is provided to and from Palominas and Valley View Schools.

All parents/guardians must enroll their child in the Before/After School Program prior to the child attending the program. Registration forms are available in each school office.  This program is intended for Kindergarten through 8th grade students.

Monday through Friday, 6:45 – 8:10 and 3:30 – 5:45, of regularly scheduled school days. We will offer care during school in-service days, from 1:45 – 5:45, providing that at least 10 children are in need of care. Please be advised that our After School Program is a service provided for our parents who need their children to remain in school until 5:45 p.m.  Therefore, if you anticipate any conflict with picking up your child on time, you should consider other means of care for your child. If we have not heard from the parents/guardians of a child by 6:15 p.m. and we are unable to attain any emergency contact, we will presume that there has been an emergency and we will have to contact local law enforcement (Cochise County Sheriff’s Department) for a safe place to keep your child.

Students attending the Before/After School Program may ride the 5:00 activity bus to a 

regular bus stop. All others need to be picked up promptly at 5:45 p.m. There are no buses on early release days.

Payment for the Before/After School Program is due on the first of each month.  Failure to pay will constitute the student being exited from the program.  There is no extra charge for early release days (for regular attendees), and therefore no credit for holidays and no reimbursement for unused days. Payment is due according to the schedule on the Registration Information form (link below). A late fee of $5.00 per day will be assessed starting two days after the due date.

If a check is returned due to NSF, we must receive cash or money order payment within 48 hours, in addition, there is a $20.00 service fee. If we receive more than one NSF check, all future payments must be made in cash or money orders. Your child will not be permitted to attend the Before/After School Program if payment is not received for the NSF within 48 hours.

The fee for late pick-up is $1.00 per minute. Fees will be charged to off-set the cost associated with personnel staying late.

The Before/After School Program will be staffed by school employees.  Parents/guardians needing to contact the school regarding the Before/After School Program should call the school office, 378-0616, and they will be directed to the appropriate personnel. Before/After Care staff may also be contacted at 266-5719 & 266-5718.

Students will have a variety of activities to participate in. Games, puzzles, sports, homework assistance, and arts and crafts activities will be offered. The gym will also be available when not in use by athletic teams.

Children need to be signed in by the person dropping them off in the morning. The gate by the gym should be used to enter the Before School Program. Students will not be permitted into the building before 6:45 a.m.

Students must be picked up by 5:45 or ride the 5:00 bus. Parents/guardians must sign their children out at the end of the day indicating the time and their signature. A photo ID may be required, please carry one with you at all times. Children will only be released to those listed on the emergency cards. A sign is posted in the gym/foyer window letting parents/guardians know the location of After Care on a daily basis.

Parents utilizing the Before/After School Program on a “Drop-In” basis (student does not regularly attend) will be charged a $5.00 flat fee.

An afternoon snack will be provided and children are permitted to bring their own snacks.

The same behavior that is expected in school is also expected in the Before/After School Program. The discipline Policy as stated in the Parent/Student Handbook applies to the

Before/After School Program. In the event that a child fails to follow school rules, the parent/guardian will be contacted to meet with school personnel. Such behavior is of serious concern and requires prompt and firm action. Continued rule violations will result in a child being removed from the program.
