The last page of the letter and the permission slip need to be returned by Tuesday, Apr. 24. April 13, 2012

Dear Parent/Guardian and Choristers,

As we progress through our last quarter of the 2011-2012 school year, several exciting performance opportunities have presented themselves to PEC's Challenger Chorus. The PEC Spring Concert has been confirmed for Thursday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. on our campus in the MPR. Dress rehearsal for the performance will be held that morning at two school assemblies in the MPR as well. Our 8thgrade members have also been invited to perform at the 8thgrade promotion ceremony Wednesday afternoon, 12:00-2:00 pm, May 23, at Radiant.

However, perhaps the most exciting news is that Challenger Chorus has been invited to perform at AzACDA's (Arizona's chapter of the American Choral Director's Association) Choral Festival at Church of the Beautitudes in Phoenix on Friday afternoon, May 4. Choral festivals are highly motivating experiences which help our students advance toward achieving their performance objectives and goals. Afterwards, our choristers will be going to AMF Bowling at 91stAvenue and Peoria for entertainment and dinner. This is obviously a very exciting prospect for our students! In order to make the trip a reality, we would need approximately 6-7 parents to help supervise and chaperoneon the trip to and from Church of the Beautitudes and the bowling lanes. To be considered as a chaperone for the trip, one would need to fill out a volunteer packet (available from Danielle Persons at 623-546-7225 or dpersons@pecschools.org), and you need to have an AZ Dept. of Public Safety fingerprint card. If you are interested in assisting us in any of these areas, please fill out the attached form. Regardless of whether you would like to chaperone, please be sure to fill out the participation-intent portion of the form and return along with the signed Field Trip permission slip by Tuesday, April 24, to Mrs. Gordon.

Due to the importance of these performances, it is vital that Challenger Chorus members maintain their commitment to personal practice sessions and rehearsals. Practice forms need to be signed by parents/guardians and handed in each week (7 practice logs for 4thquarter are due by Thursday, May 10, to qualify for a '11-'12 participation pin). If any students have not yet picked up their personal practice CDs, there are still a few available for $1 each. Practice sessions should be 25-30 minutes per day, at least 5 -6 days a week, in order to make good progress with vocal pitch, tone and stamina.

Regarding rehearsal attendance and other requirements, it is extremely important that all Chorus members attend every scheduled rehearsal, unless there is an unavoidable emergency or doctor's appointment (please submit a written excuse by the next rehearsal). Extra rehearsal schedules are available outside Music Room E-5 and on the PEC website. If your student has a conflicting extra-curricular rehearsal/practice, it is their responsibility to regularly submit a schedule for that activity and the phone number and/or e-mail address of the adult sponsoring the activity. These absences may be excused with a note from the parent/guardian with 24 hours notice (when possible).

Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to: ASD and/or absences from a rehearsal or performance without a note from a parent (excuses for all performances need to be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the event). If you decide to e-mail the note, please call my extension (623.546.7281) to confirm its arrival, as our spam filters sometimes route outside e-mails to the junk mail file. No more than 1 unexcused absence will be accepted per semester (please see '11-'12 Challenger Chorus Goals, Guidelines, and Responsibilities for additional details). Lastly, PEC requires that any student engaged in an extracurricular activity must maintain a C average in all classes (including Specials) in order to participate in any extracurricular activity.

As always, thank you for your support of the Arts at PEC!

Sincerely,

Charlotte Gordon
