PEC instrumental Music program
Band & Guitar for 2012-2013
Hello Parents/Guardians and Students,
The band and guitar programs continue to thrive and grow here at Paradise Education Center. With each coming year, a new group of musicians get their start in our programs, as the musical veterans continue to flourish in extracurricular instrumental music.
If you are interested in having your child join band and/or taking guitar lessons for the up-coming school year 2012-2013, please print and return commitment form from DOCUMENTS page.
BAND PROGRAM:
The band program is for 5th though 8th graders. There is the beginning 'PEC Concert Band' which will meet Mondays 2:50PM - 3:50PM, and the advanced 'Voyager Ensemble' which will meet Wednesdays 2:50PM - 3:50PM. Students need to audition for the 'Voyager Ensemble', unless waived by me. Parents/Guardians and Students will make a year long commitment to be in a band. There will be occasional rehearsals Thursdays 2:50PM - 3:50PM. All rehearsals are required, unless a note or email is received prior to the rehearsal. Please do not miss more than 2 rehearsals a quarter.
Students can choose from these instruments to play:
flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone (small tuba),
percussion (snare drum & bells) or electric four string bass guitar.
Please note that percussionists and bass guitarists need to have an
aptitude audition prior to joining. All students should check with me
to see which instrument is best for them.
There are many ways to get an instrument. You can rent, purchase or borrow.
There are local music stores like "Musical Surprise", "Step-Up Music Studio"
and others that will rent instruments to families. You could use a relative's
instrument, buy a used or new instrument or borrow from the school
(we have a few instruments at PEC).
GUITAR PROGRAM:
Guitar lessons are for 5th though the 8th graders. There are 3 classes of lessons. Each student must have their own acoustic guitar to begin. (No electric guitars to start. Acoustic needs to be purchased, not rented. I can give you ideas where to buy.) Each class is limited to 18 students, sofirst-come, first-served. Beginning guitarists will meet Mondays 7AM to 7:42AM, intermediate guitarists will meet Tuesdays 7AM to 7:42AM and advanced guitarists will meet Fridays 7AM to 7:42AM. We meet at the front office. Parents/Guardians and Students will make a year long commitment to be in a guitar group. All rehearsals are required, unless a note or email is received prior to the rehearsal. Please do not miss more than 2 rehearsals a quarter.
All Band and Guitar Students are required to perform at two assemblies and a Winter Concert in December 2012; and at two assemblies and a Spring Concert in May 2013.
Thank you for taking an interest in the PEC instrumental music program!
