1. How old does a student have to be to join band?

A student needs to be at least a 5th grader to join the "PEC
Concert Band". Most band students start in 5th grade, but all 5th
though 8th graders may join with the approval of their
parent/guardian.

2. What instruments are used in band?

They can choose from one of the following instruments to play:

flute
clarinet
alto saxophone
trumpet
trombone
percussion (snare drum & bells)
bass guitar

Please note that the percussionists and bass guitarists will need
to have a playing exam prior to joining--any 5th though 8th
grader can audition with the approval of their parent/guardian.

After some years of experience, a student can switch from trumpet
to French horn or switch from trombone to tuba, for example.

5. Which guitar class/instrument is best for my student? Where do I get one?

A placement/proficiency audition will help Mr. Myers set up the
three guitar classes; with the appropriate ratio of students with
their appropriate level of current skill. We can revisit this
placement if the student shows enough improvement and requested
to change to a different level of class.

STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE/OWN AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR TO JOIN. You should
not rent a guitar. Please ask Mr. Myers on recommendations (ex;
NOT a Wal-Mart toy guitar; go to Bizzare Guitars, Sam Ash, a Guitar Center,
Craig’s List or a reputable music store that sells acoustic
guitars—a good student model could be approximately $100 to $250)
