Handwriting

First Graders use the Handwriting Without Tears program. I will be sending home a copy of the  letters for home use. I would recommend that you keep a copy handy on the refrigerator or somewhere similiar to refer to when needed.

We will begin the year concentrating mostly on lower case letters and numbers. Please try to be aware of letters that your child is forming incorrectly or having difficulty with and help as needed.

Handwriting Club
- This club rewards good handwriting. Students will be taught the proper formation of each letter. Many students will make the letters correctly on the handwriting dittos, but do not carry the process over to their everyday work. This "club" idea helps stress the importance of writing correctly all the time. Students with good handwriting will be in the Handwriting Club.

Club members will be allowed to eat lunch outside (weather permitting) and will also do some fun activities. Students who make the "Handwriting Club",  must continue to write correctly to stay in the Handwriting Club. Students who are in more than once will receive a handwriting "watermelon" certificate".

Brief information on my feeling about handwriting
I believe that handwriting is important. Students need to learn to take pride in their work. So I will expect all work to be neatly done.
