For example, in list 6 is the -un family with the words run and fun. They should know how to read -un and later will be expected to be able to spell other similar words such as bun, gun, and sun.

A word about accountability . . .

Kids often think that they only need to know the words for one test, and that as they progress through the lists they forget previous words. This attitude will not be accepted. Students are held accountable for old lists. Surprise tests on old lists will become frequent and students must pass or will be sent back to relearn the words. Parents can really help their child avoid this set back if they are aware of which words cause problems, and keep bringing those words back for review. A simple philosophy with regard to spelling is . . .

                                  "You have to know them for the rest of your life".
