FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What should I bring for a birthday snack? Please try to stay away from items with too much sugar. We are asking that no cakes or cupcakes be brought to school. Some great ideas are fruit kebobs, low sugar muffins, finger sandwiches, specialty breads - banana bread, cheese bread etc..., cheese and crackers, popcorn, naturally sweetened cookies. Please let me know if you have any other great ideas. Please also bring a picture of your child at each age. Can my child wear a watch to school? I would prefer if all jewelry stay at home. Believe it or not, watches are quite a distraction for the child who is wearing it and his/her friends. What time should I arrive if I am a Pizza Friday helper? Please plan on arriving around 11:00. We will need your help to set up, serve and clean up. Please bring enough 100% fruit juice, fruit and vegetable for each child. Please already have the fruit and vegetable in individual baggies. Please bring enough for 28 children. Why doesn't my child bring home a lot of papers? Much of the Montessori curriculum is hands on and does not generate paper work. If you would like to see what your child is working on, please ask him/her to show you in the morning (when nobody else is in the classroom). Can I come and observe my child? You may start observing in October. Please let me know on which day you would like to come as I only like to have one observer at a time. What is the Ceramics program and how can I help? To make this program really work, we need help from our Villa parents. First, we need to start collecting clay tools. Tools specifically designed for clay are great, but there are a lot of other tools that are also very effective with clay...so please raid your kitchen drawers, or your local are supply store and help us stock up. If you have any questions, contact Mari Giddings m.giddings@yahoo.com....please volunteer. It is fun to work with the children. rolling pins (wood) sponges buckets twin fitted sheets (for table covers) spray bottles garlic presses pizza cutters letter stamps forks lace (for texture) any actual ceramics tools are great (no plastic, the clay sticks to plastic) What kind of shoes are best for school? It is best for the children to have shoes that have backs on them. Flip flops are not appropriate for playground time and I would ask that they are not worn to school. Behavior incident forms are printed on bright green paper. If you get one of these, it is to inform you of a behavior incident that happened at school. It might be agression, rudeness, talking back to a teacher, disrespect of property or something out of the ordinary for your child. Most of the behavior incidents that happen at school are minor and things that are expected of children of this age. The incident forms are for things that go beyond our normal expectations. Please know, we will have already talked about the incident at school but some follow up at home would be beneficial and appreciated. We will try to be as detailed as possible on the incident form but if you still have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. |
