 Hello Everyone.

This Week

We will not have spelling or math assessments this week.  I will be giving students mid-year assessments on Tuesday in preparation for Parent/Teacher conferences coming up.

Remember to sign up on the website also for the Potluck on the 25th. Any side dishes or desserts are great!!!

We will have Barter Day on Wednesday morning. Students may bring in items from home that they wish to trade. All of their items must be able to fit on a bath or beach towel.

Please sign up for parent/teacher conferences on the class website. The password is parents1.

We need parent volunteers to help with the Scholastic Book Fair the first week of December. Please visit Diane Wick's classroom website or call Amy if you can volunteer.  Volunteers will be assisting students in choosing books and running the cash register. Thank you!

We are collecting diapers for the diaper drive until December 15th. Sizes 4 and 5 are needed the most. The Sojourner Center helps women and their children who are seeking help from an abusive relationship. This is our winter fundraiser instead of Adopt-A-Family.  Again, thank you!

Homework

** Students have reading logs and spelling corrections this week. We will begin Saxon homework again after Thanksgiving.

Reading Logs - Students are expected to read at least 30 minutes per night, Monday through Thursday, and fill out their reading log. They are required to write at least 2 complete sentences or 1 long descriptive sentence summarizing what they read. Please initial your child's reading log nightly once they have completed the written portion.

Math - Students may have Saxon homework if they were not able to complete it in class. They are to complete all the practice problems for the lesson on graph paper. If the lesson is an odd number, the student completes the odd problems of the problem set on Saxon paper. If it is an even numbered lesson, they complete the even numbered problems. I know this sounds confusing, but we go over it every day in class and the 4th grade students are getting the hang of it. The 5th and 6th grade students already know the routine from last year. You do not need to grade the math homework since we do so in class. Please encourage your child to label their name and the lesson number, complete the math in pencil, and write legibly.
Believe me, they know :)    No Saxon this week!

Spelling/Math Corrections:  The math and spelling assessments from last week will be in your child's communication folder  Monday night. Spelling corrections consist of rewriting each misspelled word three times each on a separate piece of paper. If a sentence or definition was incorrect, that needs to be corrected on a separate sheet as well. Math corrections consist of reworking the missed problem on a separate sheet of paper (Saxon or graph). If your child cannot figure out why they missed a problem after trying to rework it, they can highlight the problem on their test, and I will help them during Math Q&A on Tuesday.  (No Math corrections this week)
