October 2, 2009
Today we had a lesson defining the parts of an expository essay...
Weekend Writing Assignment:
3 Paragraph Expository Essay on free-choice topic (chosen in class). Students should write a complete rough draft to be developed and edited throughout the week.
September 11, 2009
Many students finished the rough draft writing this week, but if your child needed to finish it he/she brought it home. The only other task for weekend writing is to find an address of a relative or family friend out of the state (if possible) to write a friendly letter to along with "Flat Stanly". We are starting a really fun project next week called "Flat Stanly" where he gets to have an adventure with a relative or family friend and they write about it and/or take pictures. Ex. "Here's Flat Stanly at the Cubs game". It's best for students to choose a person to write to that will write back. If you don't know anyone, please let me know and I will try to find a friend of mine. Some students also needed to finish or add to book reports this weekend. I will give feedback and help on those individually next week.

Weekend Writing Assignment August 21, 2009
Students should answer questions/ prompts 1-10 on the Wizard of Oz response page handed out in class today. It is also posted under "Projects/ Reports", if it was lost, stolen, destroyed etc...
Students should also refer to notes taken in class today about literary elements, as well as, the movie we viewed. To help parents, I also added a link to a website containing information about literary elements (under "links"). This assignment will act as a form of pre-writing for a futute narrative piece the children will be composing.
