Reading to your child is great, and easy to do at home. Read stories
that are enjoyable for the whole family. Try a variety of different books,
for example nursery rhymes, educational, funny or serious. Ask your
child questions like "what do you think this book is going to be about " or
"what happened at the beginning, middle and end of this story".
If your child is already a reader, encourage them to read to you, or take
turns reading the story together.
When writing with your child, encourage them to use lower case letters.
When your child is writing their name, only the first letter should be
capitalized (Jennifer). If your child is not ready to write sounds,
encourage them to draw, trace and color.
Counting at home, in the car or anywhere is something you can easily
do. Be creative! Depending on your child's age and level, the sky is the
limit (5,10,15,20...).
And last, but not least, and most importantly, help your child build
confidence by fostering their independence. Encourage them to dress
themselves, carry their own belongings, clean up after meals and play,
and participate in household chores.
Have fun! If your child shows signs of frustration or lack of interest, lay
low for a few days or a week, and then try again.
