What's the best method to communicate when I have questions?
If you have a question or issue specific to your child, the best
way to reach me is by email. It's often difficult for me to give
you my full attention during school hours and immediately before
and after, and detracts from the attention I can give to your
kids.

How can I reach a teacher in an emergency?
In a true emergency, please call the Cheryl office: (602)765-4325.
What should I do if I would like to meet with a teacher?
If you need to speak with me, please email me with the best times
and ways to contact you. I will attempt to reach you within
48 hours.
What should my child bring and not bring to school every day?
Your child should have: (1) a non-disposable water bottle that
they will take home for cleaning every night; (2) their take-home
folder (with homework or other assignments inside); and (3) a
healthy lunch (main dish, fruit, vegetable, drink, cloth placemat
and ice pack.
Your child should not bring any electronics, toys or anything
else that could potentially distract them or their classmates.
They also should not have these items when they are riding the
bus to and from school.
What should we do if my child will miss school or has been absent?
If you will know in advance that your child is going to miss
school (which
obviously is not encouraged), please inform us so we can provide
your child
with the necessary work to be done during the absence.
If your child misses school because of illness, we will modify
your child's
work plan, if appropriate. We are happy to send work home if you
arrange to
pick it up.
How do I know what work my child is getting done in the classroom?
Seeing that most of the work/ daily follow ups are
completed in notebooks, we ask that these stay in the classroom
at all times. I invite you to come to the classroom with your
child before or after school and have them show you their work in
progress and/or portfolio.
Please ask your child for his/her communication folder each
night. This is where they will be placing notes from us,
handouts, reading logs and other work that needs to be done. We
will also send home certain notices in the communication folder.
Your child is expected to bring the folder in each morning and
take it home each night so that all of us can find important
updates, letters, notes and work.
How much help should I be giving with homework and assignments?
You should not need to "teach" your child new material.
Saxon is designed to provide repetition and review. Please write
a note on top of an assignment if you find that your
child is having trouble with a specific concept over and over
again. The best way to address this kind of problem is to remind
your child to ask for a specific lesson the next day.
For longer term assignments, please help your child create a
clear, visible calendar to help keep track of deadlines and due
dates. Many long-term assignments will include a rubric that
outlines my expectations. For some of these types of assignments,
you may need to take your child to the library and/or provide
internet access.
Where can I find the school's rules, policies and procedures?
Villa's Student Handbook is posted on the school's main web site
(www.villamontessori.com) under the Admissions section. The
Handbook includes sections on the dress code and the disciplinary
policies.
Since parents are required to volunteer, what opportunities are available?
We have a separate section on our web site describing the
volunteer opportunities in our classroom. Sign-ups will be posted
on the website as things come up. If you have questions, please
ask the parent coordinator.
What are the requirements to chaperone a field trip?
If you would like to chaperone a field trip, you will need to
have a security clearance. You can get more details on these
requirements from the office. You must also show your driver's
license and motor vehicle insurance card at the Cheryl office
before the field trip. These will be copied and filed in the
office for future trips.
What do I need to bring when I sign up for Pizza Friday?
You should bring 26 chilled juice boxes, bottled waters, or milk
and enough fruit and/or vegetables to feed 26 students. You can
drop these items off the morning of your assigned Pizza Friday
(or even the Thursday before) and we will store the food in the
refrigerator in the Community Room. You do not need to be
present during lunch.
Can I bring in treats for my child's birthday?
You are welcome to bring treats for your child's birthday, as
long as they are healthy and nutritious. Some popular and
allowable options include frozen fruit bars, berries and cream,
pumpkin or banana bread, frozen bananas, or any type of muffins.
Please do not bring cupcakes, cake or cookies.
How do you handle food allergies?
We receive a food allergy list at the beginning of each school
year and post is so that we are all aware of the allergies in
each classroom. If your child has a tendency to have an allergic
reaction to certain foods or bug bites, please provide the school
with the appropriate mediation (e.g., Benadryl, Epi pen, etc.).
Also, please make sure your child's blue card is always up to
date.
