Homework Information
Reading
Please make sure that your child is reading 20-30 minutes a night. It would
be great if you could create a space or time each night that is devoted to
reading. They will be required to either blog about what they are reading,
answer reading reflection questions or write a letter to me weekly telling me
about what they are reading.
Spelling/Vocabulary
A list of words will go home with your child starting this Monday. I’d ask
that they study the spelling of the word and definition throughout the week.
They will also be completing vocabulary activities in class to reinforce
their understanding of the meaning of each of the words. We are also making
sure that they know how to spell the 1200 most frequently used words. This
work is individualized to each child and studying will be done in class.
*A great website for them to practice their weekly words is

Math(5th and 6th)
Your child will begin Saxon math on Monday, August 22nd
Lesson 1 due Tuesday, August 23rd
Lesson 2 due Wednesday, August 24th
Lesson 3 due Thursday, August 25th
Lesson 4 due Monday, August 29th(only because we don’t have school next
Friday)
Lesson 5 due Monday, August 29th
(You can count on them completing a Saxon lesson a night unless you are
notified otherwise.)
Math (4th)
20-30 minutes of Study Island a night (Begin with 3rd grade math) from
August 22-September 12. Ideally, I’d like them to work on Study Island 100
minutes each week. Starting September 12th Saxon will begin. Please see the
schedule below.
September 12- Lesson 1
September 13- Lesson 2
September 14- Lesson 3
September 15-Lesson 4
September 16- Lesson 5
WHAT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED IN EACH LESSON
Odd Numbered Lessons: Your child will complete all of the problems in the
Practice section and all of the odd numbered problems in the problem set.
Even Numbered Lessons: Your child will complete all of the problems in the
Practice section and all of the even numbered problems in the Problem Set.
I have also sent your child home with an answer booklet for each lesson. I am
asking that you (or your child) correct the homework nightly. Once it is
corrected please sign your initials at the top of the homework page. I will
have your child re-do the lesson if they do not show their work or if their
work is too messy to read. I would love it if you could help me with this on
your end. They will take a weekly Saxon test on the lessons that were covered
the previous week. This homework should serve as a review as we are covering
math lesson with Montessori materials in the classroom. Please e-mail me if
you notice your child is spending more than 30 minutes on a homework
assignment or if he/she is struggling with many of the concepts.
If your child misses homework assignments, they will need to go to Study Hall
at lunch. If it becomes a persistent problem, we(child, parents, teacher)
will have a conference to help them figure out a plan to succeed.
I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to e-mail me at
