Well, the groundhog saw his shadow this morning - 6 more weeks of winter???
How will we manage? Living in the desert certainly has its perks.
The children have been enjoying learning about penguins and are becoming
quite the experts. They are anxious to share thier research with you next
week during Special Person's Day on Tuesday. We will conclude our unit on
penguins and other polar animals next week before studying about bears and
other creatures that hibernate.
Most of the children are doing a great job with math fact fluency to 10. The
first grade goal is 95 problems correct in 5 minutes - addition, subtraction,
and mixed facts. Please help your child practice at home. I will be sending
their most current test home in the red homework folders tomorrow.
FIRST GRADE SPECIAL PERSONS DAY - First grade students may invite one or two
special persons to share a classroom activity, lunch, & a visit to the Book
Fair on Tuesday, February 7th from 10:40 - 11:55. Often the "special person"
brings lunch for themself and the student and a picnic lunch is enjoyed
outside (weather permitting).
TEDDY BEAR PICNIC / CHOCOLATE FONDUE - The children are invited to bring a
favorite teddy bear, a blanket or towel, and a picnic lunch to school on
Valentine's Day - Tuesday, February 14th. All first grade classes will eat
together during our regular lunch hour. We will be doing some special art
and writing activities with the teddy bears. After lunch, we will be having
chocolate fondue with various fruits and treats as a special valentine's Day
snack. Please check your child's homework folder for additional information.
SUMMER BIRTHDAYS - Children who have a summer birthday get an "Un-Birthday"
here at school. Simply pick a day and let me know that it is your child's "Un-
Birthday" - we'll honor your child, make a birthday poster for them, and if
you'd like to provide a special (store bought) treat we'll gladly eat it!
"Un-Birthdays" can be celebrated any day February - April! Please contact me
to schedule your child's special day.
