Homework

The most important part of homework is reading. Time spent reading
together, parents reading to children, and first grade students reading
alone are all important aspects of reading.
Your child needs to be logging into RAZ-kids at least twice a week, and
parents need to sign the reading log in the book bags which will come home
each Friday beginning August 26th.
Homework folders with spelling homework will be sent home each Friday as well
beginning August 19th. Work is to be completed and returned to school by
THURSDAY of the following week.
Students will also be given a variety of assignments that are appropriate to
their individual needs. Much of the work should be completed independently by
students, however, some work may require parent involvement or assistance in
the form of reading or playing a game. Occasionally, homework may require
more time and assistance. Please let me know if your child is struggling with
the amount of homework.

"Book Bags" will contain books that are on each child's specific reading
level and need to be returned by the following THURSDAY. This is important
because I need to have time to check new books out for your child. Books are
also shared throughout the grade levels.

Following is the Spelling Homework for the entire school year. Spelling
tests will be given on Fridays. The first test will be on August 26th.
Each spelling list has five core words and a short paragraph. The students
will also be tested on the five core words from the week before as a review.
These will be given in list format. In order to receive an "4", your child
must spell all five core words correctly and have five or less errors on the
entire spelling paragraph. In order to receive an "3", your child must spell
all of the core words correctly. Missing one core word results in an "2"
whether or not the rest of the paragraph is correct. Your child will receive
a "1" if she/he misses more than one core word. The priority for spelling is
mastery of the core words, which are the from the Dolch reading list. All
Amphi schools will be using this same list.

The spelling paragraphs are updated through Fall Break. Thank you!
