Good News...Perseverance, practice, effort will result in success! Students
who have not successfully passed their test of Multiplication Facts 0-12 need
to practice daily, turning in evidence of practice as provided in class.
Timed tests given each Friday.

Tips: Remind your child to carefully read the directions and look at
examples before beginning their homework. Thank you for "quality work"
(neat, thorough, complete, evidence that each student did their best!)
Students will be required to rewrite their homework if it is not neat.
Homework: Monday-Thursday
Class work not completed in class becomes homework and is due the next day.

Spelling: Activities vary for students, 20 words

211-220 is considered grade level for 4th grade end of year. This will give
you information about what your child is learning and will be questioned for
Reading, Language Arts and Math.

Your child should always be reading a book. Some students read
one at home and another at school.
Your child will be required to read a variety
of "genres"...fiction (realistic/historical), mystery, adventure, non-
fiction, biography, folktales, fairy tales, myths, legends, poetry, short
stories, science fiction, and fantasy. If your child is only reading one
genre, let's help them to branch out to discover new worlds of
information/entertainment. Every student should read a minimum of 80 pages
per week and submit at least 1 book report per month to be considered at
grade level.
Student's optimal learning occurs when reading within their lexile range and
slightly above (MAP scores indicate lexile range),and gradually be increasing
the level of difficulty. The average 4th grade lexile is: 650-850.

My goal in assigning homework is to help students build good study habits,
be responsible, take ownership of their learning, and reinforce/practice
what they are learning in the classroom.
Homework: (Please inital homework to verify that you noted its completion.)
Time: 30 min. independent reading and 30 minutes other each night Monday -
Thursday. This will include:
Project based assignments will have notification letters sent home, regular
check points to monitor progress, and plenty of time for completion. The
majority of projects will be completed in class.
Tests and quizzes should be studied for prior to the test.
Students will know the date of a major unit test about a week in
advance. "Pop quizzes" can be given any time.
Student Calendar: The students will have a calendar and are expected to
write down assignments they did not complete in class, homework, and
upcoming tests. It will be the students' responsibility to make sure they
have their calendar updated daily AND write down the assignments. It is a
good idea for students to get the phone numbers of two classmates that they
can check with in case they are absent, or suddenly "forget" the assignment.
