When will we have 5th grade band?

Band and orchestra begin on Friday, 8/28. This is a wonderful 
experience 
that we are fortunate to be able to offer our students. Return 
paperwork sent home as soon as possible.
Students may go to band on the first day even if they are not 
100% sure this 
is for them.Please send a 1" or 2" binder for band class.

When will homework begin for my son or daughter?

The week of August 24th. Homework will be added gradually, 
starting with math.

Please bring a photo to school of a summer memory by Monday, 8/24

What will P.E. be like for 5th graders this school year?

All 5th graders will have P.E. in the MPR each Monday morning, 
7:45. Wear 
appropriate clothing and shoes. Activities vary. Friday morning, 
7:45 is the 
mile run, a requirement for the end-of-year Physical Fitness 
test. Running 
shoes or cross trainers recommended. Skater shoes are not built 
to take 
that much impact. If your child cannot participate in P.E., 
please write a note.

Will you need a parent to help with art projects this year?

Yes, generally on Friday afternoons. You can share the art duties 
with a friend,volunteer to be room 20's art parent, or come in to 
offer an extra pair of hands.

What opportunities are offered for my GATE student?

     Differentiation is offered in the classroom and a variety of 
learning modalities are offered for finished work. Students 
should be encouraged to complete their class work before 
beginning challenge assignments. This varies per assignment.
   Thursday afternoons will once again be GATE enrichment. This 
information will be sent home in September.
