My name is Valerie Belong and you will "belong" in my class this school year!
I have been teaching second grade for the last six years. Prior to that, I
taught band and orchestra to fifth grade students here in PUSD since 1993.
Even before that, I taught general music education in grades K-6 in the
Encinitas Union School District, Encinitas, CA and in the Jefferson County
School District in Littleton, CO. My husband is an architect and we met at
the University of Kansas where we both received our degrees. I have a
bachelors degree in Music Education and in Music Therapy and a Masters
Degree in Instructional Leadership. We have two married sons and became
grandparents for the first time this year! My interests are playing with my
granddaughter, reading, doing crossword puzzles, attending music
performances, walking, going to the beach, traveling, and spending time with
family and friends.
I am looking forward to a fanatastic year with Room 11's terrific team of
learners. I hope to encourage my students to strive individually and as a
team to learn as much as they can about the wonderful world they live in. I
want them to know it is okay to make mistakes because often that is when we
learn the most. Our motto this year will be: "I think I can, I think I
can, I knew I could." Thank you for going on this learning journey with us!
