I am happy and proud to be a teacher in the Saratoga Union School District.
The beautiful and peaceful natural environment of Saratoga daily reminds me of
my interest in caring for the earth's environment.
This is my 15th year of teaching second grade, and previous to that I taught
1st grade. Five creative summers were spent teaching computers to
children in grades 1-3 at Harker School. I have taught for six summers in
Los Altos School District using the MultiSensory Approach to reading, and
worked with the Step Up to Writing and Write Tools programs. These past two
summers I taught an author study enrichment class to 1st and 2nd graders in
Los Altos called "Reading for Fun", and boy did we
have fun! I served on the District Mathematics Committee the year before last,
and I am pleased that we will be using new materials from Envision and
Investigations for grades K-2. I have also been a district technology
mentor and a lead technology teacher at Argonaut School. I currently am on the
School Site Council.
Uncovering the individuality of each student, and nurturing their hearts and
minds makes teaching an ongoing process of discovery, which I treasure.
The mission for our class is to master second curriculum as outlined by
the district and the state, in ways that make learning a positive experience.
Fostering respect among students, and making it clear that each
student's success adds to the success of the class as a whole is an important
goal. More learning will take place in a classroom where respect and self
expression are valued.
