Snazzy Snacks
This year in Kindergarten our class will have the opportunity to make Snazzy Snacks once a week during our Writer's Workshop block. We will use this project as a way to practice handwriting, writing, and then complete the process of following directions to make a snack. The best part is...we get to eat our Snazzy Snack when we're done!
First, I must give credit for this idea to the great teachers of The Second Grade Teacher Club! Especially, Leann Schwartz for the original idea of "Tasty Tuesdays". And also to Christina Bainbridge for sharing a lot of these recipes and the title "Snazzy Snacks"! and Mrs. Madden.
What are the snack recipes that I use? I've collected the following recipes from other teachers and adapted them for my classroom. I have some severe peanut allergies in my class this year, so I've had to adapt the recipes so they are safe for all students. Here is the file for my safe Snazzy Snacks!
What is the procedure for the Snazzy Snack period in the classroom? We begin our Writers Workshop block by learning a new writing concept and students head to their seats to work on their writing. Groups of students will be pulled to work on the Snazzy Snack recipe. During this time they will be given a recipe card and must fill in letters and words in to the recipe card practicing their site words, and writing skills. Students will enjoy their delicious snack at recess time.
All recipes are collected and kept in the students' Writers Workshop folders. At the end of the year, each student will bind his/her recipes into a book to keep. The book will provide them with a way to see their writing progress and also a wonderful keepsake of fun recipes!
When it is your child's snack week I will send home or email the recipe for that week with a list of the ingredients. Please bring in these items enough for the class by Friday so we will have the necessary items we need to make our Snazy Snack!
