Homework 7th Grade

Thursday, May 24

The writing continues:
Item 3.  Title:  Who do you want to be going forward?
Who do you want to be going forward (realistically, not like a superhero...)  What steps do you need to take to enact that change?  Maybe you are too serious and you want to be more relaxed, or you are a procrastinator and you want to get your work done early.  How will achieve this?  Be specific.
4. 8th grade expectation and aspirations
What do you think 8th grade will be like?  What do you hope to achieve?
On notebook paper that was to be turned in to me, but some of you did not finish:
Think about what books you have read this year - both in and outside of class.  What were your favorites?  What do you wish you could have read?  What would you recommend to another 7th grader?  Why?

Your reading assignment for Lit class is below.  We will be working on this in class next week, but if you are slower reader or need to re-read your material, then please read your section this weekend.  Remember, you must read, at minimum, one fiction, one nonfiction, one poem for your category.  If you have drama, then you must read that too.  You are encouraged to read more than that, but the three-to-four is the minimum.

We did a lot of writing in class today.
If you were absent, you must complete this:
In Comp. book:
1.  Title: Who have you been?  Several good paragraphs journaling about what kind of student, friend, classmate, athlete, etc. you have been the past year or two.  Are you a goofball?  Too Serious?  Slacking on homework?  What kind of person have you been?  Are you a leader?
2. Title:  Why Have I Been This Way?   Thinking about who you have been.... WHY have you behaved this way and to what benefit?  Did you benefit from it?  What did you get out of being too serious or being a goofball or talking during class?  Is it working for you?
We will add more to this tomorrow....
Also, think about what books you have read this year - both in and outside of class.  What were your favorites?  What do you wish you could have read?  What would you recommend to another 7th grader?

Good job on your test today!
Keep working on your poetry packet.  Tomorrow I will do  sample poem with you to eliminate confusion we are having.

Monday, April 30

English - test Thursday for adverbs.  Complete the 3 worksheets for tomorrow.
Two websites to use for review:
Ignore the section on adverbs as phrases....
http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/adverb.htm
And for comparative and superlative:
http://www.eflnet.com/tutorials/advcompsup.php
http://flightline.highline.edu/writingcenter/handouts/comparative-superlative.pdf

Lit - start poetry project.  Details given in class.  Due a week from Friday.
Using the powerpoint I showed in class that you took notes on, you will ID those poetic devices and types of poetry in published poems. They should be poems by a reputable author, not just one you found randomly on the web. (Not saying you can't use the web, but do so with caution.  We want good examples of well-written poetry, not examples of poorly written poetry!)
Your Poetry packet/book must be in a folder, binder, notebook ,etc.  Staples or paperclipped binder paper will not be accepted.
Your packet will have:
a copy of the published poem (with author),
next page - analysis of poem based on powerpoint.  (For example, "this poem shows personification in lines x,y,z when the author gives life to a chair by saying it crawled across the floor.")
third page - you write a poem in the same style as the mentor poem, using the same devices.  It can be a similar topic or one that simply reminds you of the published work.
Then repeat until you have done all devices, types of poems.  You can have MORE than one device/element from a mentor poem.  So one mentor poem could have rhyme, alliteration, and personification.  YOu must use all three in your poem that you write.

Thursday, April 26
English - we reviewed the answers to adverb packets and wrote sentence using comparative and superlative adverbs.  We will have a test on Thursday on adverbs.  Please review the unit.
Lit - We completed a 4 square chart for poetry and tried to find examples in our poems.  Tonight, you wil use the poem I gave you to complete a similar chart.

Wednesday - we did not meet today for very long.
The worksheets will be due tomorrow.  Be sure you have reviewed and taken notes on the powerpoint for poetry.

Tuesday, April 24
