Welcome

It is hard to believe that the first semester is coming to an end. We have been in the science lab learning about everything from beetles and isopods to the reasons for the seasons on Earth. Here are some of the exciting investigations the students will be working on this coming semester:
  • The 4th grade students will finish their investigation on environments and will begin exploring the wonders of magnetism and electricity.
  • The 5th grade will discover the power of Earth's elements and chemical reactions.
  • The 6th grade has set their sights beyond the Sun to explore the solar systems planets before they move beyond the galaxy.
  • The 7th Grade will continue their discovery about the wonders of life by examining the structure of plants, as well as the theories of natural selection and adaptation.
  • The 8th grade will discover how elements combine to make new substances in Chemical Interactions. They will analyze substances, learn about the phases of matter, and conduct chemical reactions to gain a deeper understanding about matter.
The students will be responsible for their scientific observations and data in their science notebooks. The students will also hold online discussions on relevant science news to further expand their scientific knowledge.

On Thursday, February 2, 2011, the 7th and 8th grade students will participate in our 3rd Annual "Sue Prince Science Fair." The six winners from our science fair will go on to compete in the Oakland Diocesan Science Fair at St. Joe's High School on Saturday, February 25, 2011.

My new name is Mrs. Britt, however email address however will still remain bwalsh@csdo.org.

I am looking forward to continuing to guide the 4th-8th grade Assumption School students as they continue to make many exciting scientific discoveries during the coming year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Britt
