B'nai Mitzvah Information

WELCOME TO THE B'NAI MITZVAH PAGE!

We hope that this will be a place to help you get some of your questions
anwered about out B'nai Mitzvah program. But don't fret - if you don't find
your answer here, email Susan (click on the email link above) and I'll get
back to you as soon as I can.

Some common questions:

1. Does my family have to be members of Temple Beth Abraham in order
for my child to have a Bar/Bat Mtizvah ceremony there?

YES, we consider that a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony welcomes a child into
our community so you must be part of our community to hold your
ceremony here.

2. Does my child have to attend religious school at Temple Beth Abraham
in order to have a Bat/Bar Mitzvah ceremony there?

If your child is currently attending a Jewish Day School, then she/he does not
have to attend our religious school program until 7th grade, at which point it
is required that your child join our program. If your child does not attend a
Jewish Day School, then attendance here is a requirement. Students must
attend religious school for a minimum of 3 years - starting in the 5th grade.
However, it is highly recommended that your child start religious school as
early as possible so as to gain the greatest benefit from our program and to
feel a part of our community.

3. How does my child get prepared for his/her haftarah and Torah
readings?

Your child will learn the prayers that she/he will lead in religious school
and will learn the two tropes (cantillations) as well as the haftarah and
Torah readings with a private tutor. We will help you find a tutor. We
recommend your child start tutoring 9-12 months before the date of the
ceremony.
